Today I decided to bring out some of my chams out for some natural sunlight. I noticed my two male ambilobe didn't give me any problems when I stuck my hand in and reach in to grab them out of the cage. I notice that they both were starring at my shirt rather then my hands? Could this be my luck of the day that my chameleons didn't hiss at me or could it be the color of my shirt that I am wearing?

Someone also mention to me about leaving a laying bin and I shouldn't use the color orange because it might scare them. I think black or white bin is ok?? Anyone has any input in this?

Oh I'm wearing a green tshirt with some white and black... Mostly green!

Its weird hes like a totally different chameleon as of today. He is sitting on my shoulder at the moment and turning around here and there looking at things. Hes a jumper! so far he is staying cool!

I normally tap the cage door three times before opening it. Chameleons communicate through vibration so hopefully they understand that I'm going to open the cage to feed them or take them out.

I don't think it matters what color t-shirt I wear. When I open up his cage, Dom is ready to run away

I work construction, and occasionally when i get home I have my red bandanna on my head to stop sweat. I have noticed if I approach Lombardi's cage with the Red on my head, he will retreit from me to hide. He hates that thing. Colors you wear do matter to the chams...that is for sure.

Most chams that I've been around hate red. Green seems to be their favorite color and light to med. blue would come next.

I've definately noticed that my male panther dislikes orange and red, but also black, at least in large quantities. He hates my boyfriend's black hat. He attacks my Blackberry, which is black, but is just fine with my silver camera. He doesn't seem to mind white, green, blue, tan or brown.

Mine dosnt care about clothes but our girl hates my sunglasses does not take an eye of em for a second.

Flash seems to hate my wife's bright yellow outfits. :D
Gapes, puffs up, wobbles back-n-forth, and generally looks mad. :)

I cant say Ive noticed such reactions from mine (clothing or object color) even when I began using a bright red sprayer. However Occasionally I put in a moth or locust thats a bit on the big side and he flares up and flattens out. Obviously sees it as a threat? I just remove it, my beardys have no such issues!
I wonder if some insect species in yemem actually prey on or otherwie do harm to chams
(try to feed off them due their color?).
Strangly, if introduce one slightly smaller, its dinner immediately.

I have noticed a distinct prefrence for green insects.

I try to wear white and beige around Gizmo. He does not like red and even worse, pink.

I have a big beige coat that I keep outside his door (he's got his own room), and before I go in, I put it on if I'm wearing any of the dreaded and forbidden colors.

Routinely tapping your cage door before opening it seems like an excellent idea. It would seem to be a way of communicating to them in the only language they know.... vibrations. It would be a way to getting them accustomed to the next step which would be opening the enclosure. It would give them an advanced warning and they would not be startled.

Great Idea!

How cool to be a cham with your own room:)!Trixxi seems to be scared of my red coloured tops!!i tend to change them if i am near her

I can't wear black with my melleri.

Henry spots up and will elevate himself.

Lenny looks at me funny.

My other chams don't seem to mind colors. Jake no matter what fires up at me if I look him straight in the eye. Everyone else doesn't seem to pay any attention to me.

Mista hates black and orange, if i forget and wear those colours, which usually have no sleeves he runs backwards to get away from them:)

ok thanks for leaving some comments guys and girls!! My goal here is to make my chameleons feel as most comfortable as they can be when I'm handling them. I always think about my first veiled chameleon. She was really cool, I used to walk around with her hunting house flies. I know wild house flies are not good for her but at the time I didn't know! I just want at least 1 of my 8 chams to do this again with me. I'm always curious why one day they are calm and friendly and other days they get freak out.. I know its base on their moods as well.
