Cobalt - Yellow Nosy Be?

Olimpia

Biologist & Ecologist
I had my Nosy Be, Cobalt, out today and he was showing the strangest colors! I've had him out before and he usually turns a white with dark teal stripes when he's mad at me (which is always) but today he was flashing a lot of yellow. He in general isn't blue very often, mainly because he is so stressed out by absolutely everything and/or basking that he's typically very dark. And he's not really blue, he's definitely a green-turquoise Nosy.

He's 7 months old, going on to 8 in a week.

In this one he's calming down a little from his very stressed colors, so he has more dark spotting/stripping than in the next photos, when he's more calm.

With flash now, so it's not a lighting trick.

And one to show his calm colors. There is no way to get a side show when he's calm, he always tries to hide behind the trigs.

Nice boy you got there, Olimpia! The yellow simply means that you're going to have one VERY beautiful cham and you will be able to make everyone jealous. ;):p

Haha thanks! So much for a bright blue Nosy! lol But I can't complain too much, now I'm just curious to see what he's going to mature into as well!

I like his colors even if he's not the typical nosy be color he's quite handsome. Looks like he's calmed down a little for you too. :)

Thank you! No, not very much! He has his better days, but most of the time he hisses, bites, and throws himself off the branches and flops around in panic. But patience is a virtue, so here we are, one day at a time :)

Its a little to late to make everyone jealous. I already am!:D:p:D:):D:D

That is one LOVELY looking chameleon. Even if he doesn't show his locale colors..he is look stunning!

Wow, thats funny cuz i was gonna say he reminded me of Hannibal from the Cham Co. lol He's a looker for sure. Ive been looking at some Hannibal babies Jim has for sale right now.

Oh wow he does look like Hannibal. How interesting lol I sent the photos of my guy to Jim, because I figured it would interest him to see one of his Nosys turning out curiously.

I wonder now if I should change his name to something more yellowish lol

I don't know if this would help coz my panther is a nosylobe but when he was about 5 or 6 months old, he was showing lots of yellows but as he's gotten older, he has slowly turned into blue!

One was when he was 5 months and the other was yesterday :)

Cobalt is beautiful regardless of colour! Shame he's got such an attitude problem though! Time and patience can work wonders - I hope he calms down more for you as he gets older. It's horrible to see them so scared and stressed by everyone and everything. Amy was a bit like that to start with.

Oh that's interesting, your's is very similar. Nosylobe, huh... hmmm lol It would be interesting if I had a cross as well, but I imagine Jim at the Cham Co would have said something if he realized he'd sold a batch of mixed Nosys. We'll see what he says when he sees the photos.

Very pretty panther you have too :D

Thank you! Yes it is, I so wish he were less mean. Because Cerberus is mean too, but he stands his ground, he doesn't go into fits of blind panic like this little one does. The day I moved I preped his cage and gently let him out of his dark box so he could climb out into his cage. He crawled onto my hand and sat there a minute before he realized he was in "terrible danger," puffed up, hissed, fell off my hand and flopped around on the floor of his cage until I backed away a few feet. And in all this I did nothing, I hadn't even moved my hand! So he's a tough cookie, but I love him anyway.

Patience, patience, patience! :p

Hey Olimpia,
Computer been undergoing diagnostic tune-ups all day long, and just now getting caught up.
As to why he has turned into a slow grower, I do not know. Sometimes they will do that in a new surrounding, or there may be differences in what he ate here vs. what he is eating for you.
As to color, with the slow growth, he is still showing more the Nosy juvenile colors, where the banding can stay very dark, especially when agitated. Ambanjas and Ambilobes are also prone to going very dark-barred when smaller and agitated. Yellow tints to the head is not at all uncommon with smaller Nosy's as well. Most Nosy's reach a point in growth where the lose the dark barring, but it can vary with each animal, and occasionally an adult will keep that characteristic for some time.
A growth spurt would be nice, but he seems in no hurry. Looks happy though :)
