cleaning the cage

okay, so like I said, I got Sylvester last Thursday (day after Christmas) and today is Saturday. I am supposed to disinfect the cage every week, or so I've read. I am trying to get Sylvester out by just placing my hand in front of him so he could climb on to put him in a small box. he has always been very friendly, so far, he has never hissed at me, or bitten me, he just now hissed at me! I did nothing wrong that I know of, I didn't pick him off his branch or any thing. I started to "pet" his paw, which he likes and climbs on right away, but he hissed at me :( did I do something wrong?

You do not have to disinfect the cage every week. Really I give mine a deep cleaning every month.

I clean out the bottom every day or two though. :) Just slide out the bottom and clean it off.

Your chameleon feels threatened by you, you are in his space. Try holding a bug between your fingers and see if he will eat it. Keep hand feeding him and then he might get used to you in time. Then see if he will climb onto your hand for food.
