cleaning large enclosures....

i've been looking back at cage cleaning threads. most seem to be on the "portable cages', 24"x24"x48" screen/aluminum framed cages.. once a month or so you take it outside and give it a good scouring/spraying, then let it sun dry..

but.... Stanley's cage is 24"x30"x48" wooden frame and screen.... there's no taking it outside to scour and spray...

how do those of you that have these type of cages "give them a thorough" cleaning?

thnaks,, lisa

Daily I spot clean
Periodically, I remove the chameleon and plants, and use my steam cleaner (not a crappy cheap one) and blast every surface and especially cracks and corners.
Once or twice a year, I remove the chameleon and thoroughly scrub the heck out of the cage using vinegar.
Every other year or so, I get a couple strong friends to take the cage outside (having removed all that's in it), scrub and hose it down, and then repaint.

hey Sandra....
i do the daily spot cleaning and everyother week i try to really get in there and wipe down the flooring and remove poops and urates i missed earlier.
i just know when i had Stanley in a "portable" cage, i could take it outside and spray the stink out of it. with his new "furniture like" cage, it can't be done that way...
i want to keep it as clean as possible but i don't feel like i'm doing that since i can't get it outside....

Thats why i love aluminium and small mesh. Light and all it takes to clean is a garden hose and a safe cleaner :)

I have no trouble cleaning my wood cage. What's the problem? just Wash it. You dont need to take it outside to wash it, if for some reason you cant move it. A hose doesnt do much to truly clean things, it just gets the chunks off. You want to periodically use vinegar or peroxide and a scrub brush, regardless of the construction.
