Cleaning dubia bin

they are very slow, can't climb or fly. They aren;t considered invasive because they need a lot of heat to breed, so even if they escape in your house you shoulnd't have to worry about infestation.

and they really aren't creepy. They are like any other insect.. they just have a bad stigma attached to them because they are considered a "roach"

Roaches are prima facie creepier than other insects. Maybe these specific ones aren't, but Texas roaches are terrible. Imagine that you're just minding your business at 3AM, playing Dead Space or Resident evil on the HDTV, and then out of nowhere a 3-4 inch long cockroach skitters across your living room and hides in the computer desk. Obviously you can't leave him there since he could ambush you while you're on the computer, so you have to spend like an hour pulling out drawers and creating makeshift weapons upon which you find him and he starts flying around the room. Eventually he goes down but not without a fight. It happens perhaps once per year, certainly not often enough to get used to it. This has been my experience with roaches.

I live in Texas also. Dubias are nothing like Texas tree roaches. Trust me they are slow and dont fly. Although they can glide a bit if they get somewhere high and get scared. But thats only the males that have wings.

I'm in the same boat as JC. I know everyone loves them. Once you get a colony going their darn near free food for your chams, but i just feel like i'd be in big trouble if any ever escaped.
