Does anyone know of a forum or resource such as this for Chinese Water Dragons? I'm considering getting one in the next year and want to do thorough research on care.
I've found a little bit of info online, but nothing as extensive as this..
I kept a trio (1.2) in a glass cage with a screen lid. Unlike most people's water dragon cages, it was a 6' long cage not a tall thin one. About a third of it was water with a tap under the cage so it could be emptied daily and refilled. The rest of the cage had a layer of cypress mulch. At the opposite end of the cage to the water was a square wash basin with a second wash basin inverted over it. The top basin had a hole big enough for the female's to enter. The bottom basin was full of moistened washed playsand sand. There were logs/limbs overhanging the water and throughout the cage. There was a basking area at the basin end of the cage and a UVB light running the full length of the cage.
Supplementing, gutloading....just like chameleons. Fed them insects and the same greens and veggies I gutload with along with a little fruit. They are prone to MBD just like chameleons are. They lived long lives and produced good babies.
Don't know if I missed anything or not. Hope this helps. If you want to know anything else...just ask. I'll do my best to answer.
Don't know what brand the mulch was. I threw the bag out. (I keep it in a trash can)
I don't have any photos of the enclosure available right now....everything is packed away because I'm renovating then moving....sorry.
