Check those mouths!

I recently brought in some Parsonii for routine checks and one of them has an abscess on the gum line. Antibiotics and surgery are in order. No problems eating or noticable swelling. I had no idea. The point is,make oral exams part of your routine. These guys are masters at hiding everything

Thank you for the advice. Checking in the mouth is something the vet always does but I had never thought to do it between vet check ups. Might can catch something a lot sooner. Jann

good thing you found it before it got worse chuk.... i cant imagine having a sik parsons.itll be terrible! im constantly examining my chams from head to toe. good advise for the other cham keepers on here.

My vet looks in their mouths, but I've never thought to ask what she was checking for, such that I could check myself between vet visits. What should I be looking for? Are issues obvious? Do you have pictures you could share (healthy and unhealthy)

mouth infections are a real dangerous ive had problems with the glands in the corner of the mouth becoming infected thats no picnic im sorry to hear about your misfortune chuck hope your parsons pulls thru

Mouth problems do seem to be a issue with Parsons. I've had to use antibiotics, mostly Baytril to keep infections under control. You can see slight front infection in this photo. From rubbing mouth. Just have to clean out area good, dry them out a bit and treat with meds. sometimes long term.

No joke, I went and looked inside of all my chameleons mouths.
I only have eight, do it didn't take very long.
The veileds are easy because of their attitude.
