Charma Chameleon

I'm brand new to this forum. I just got Charma, a 10 month old veiled chameleon. I got her from petsmart and not a moment too soon. Although I'm a little mad that I gave that store money, I'm glad I saved her. She was in a 10x10x10 enclosure with only regular lights (no uvb, Uva or basking bulb) and her thermometer read 60! I got her out and refused to pay full price, because she was in deplorable conditions. I got her home and in her new enclosure and she seems very happy. Any suggestions for a new owner?

There is a great caresheet for veileds plus general cham husbandry info under the Resources tab.

I am glad you stuck to your guns and didn't pay full price for her. Though its harsh, many of us refuse to buy ANYTHING from stores like that (and make sure we tell them why we won't) and that includes rescuing their poorly kept animals. We all know full well how hard it is to walk away, but unless we do these businesses won't learn their lesson.

Well, I wrote the company yesterday saying that if they didn't clean up their act, that I was going to sue for animal endangerment and animal abuse. Got an email this morning from the owner of petsmart saying they would contact my local store. And even asked if I would go in and give them pointers on what to do with their reptile section. (they only have 4 reptiles at a time.) the reptile handler there is a moron and was shaking the chameleon around. So I yelled at her and asked for a manager. He could see I was pissed off. He sold me the chameleon for $20, (she was originally $120), and gave me a free standing enclosure with the chameleon kit (worth 140.00), thinking I wouldn't write to corporate. I did anyways. I refuse to allow them to keep their animals like that. If I can only do it one pet store at a time, I will. I already made the petco near me stop selling reptiles, the only animals they can carry at my local store are fish and mice. Plus I got a lifetime supply of feeder mice from there. I work hard to make sure animals are happy. I don't usually buy from pet stores, but I went in to look at their snake hides and saw her and couldn't leave her there.
