Chameleons

thank you for your advice!!! i really appreciate it!! though my fire belly toads are gonna keep me up, they love singing at this time but again thank you for your advice!!! :)

Ye, not to be crude but its all wrong really. If he stays in a setup like that he will get sick very fast

The setup needs to be like this

If I where you I would get down to the pet shop and get the essentials now!

A mesh cage (metal or plastic cloth)
A 5.0 uv bulb with bulb starter
A good live plant/s

You can use the same vines and stuff that you have in the cage now to fill the new one. You can still use the heat bulb and fixture you have

i am using s calcium supplement called tri-cal it also has Vit D3 and i have fed his crickets lots of fruits before e.g. mango, strawberry, bannana, and some tomato but not very often, usually every other time

oh ok, thank you! i will check around the petstores near me asap! but i am alittle broke and dont get paid till friday so hopefully i will have enough money for the new enclosure! and what is it called so that i can specificaly look for it at the store? and so far i havent worried about him getting sick, he hasnt showed any signs of sickness, and since i've had him he has shed twice, he actually just finished shedding two days ago i put a shedding solution in his water and spray bottles to help and it did but i dont want to risk him getting sick! :( so i will try to get his new enclosure as soon as i can! and thanks for the pic that helped alot :)

i am saving up for a uvb because i just got hired so for now its living on paycheck to paycheck but i make sure he is getting fed enough and he does move around alot though i did catch him on the bottom of the enclosure twice, he was just walkin around and when i walked in he climbed back onto his vines so i dont know if he fell? or if he decided the floor of the tank was good but those were the only times i've seen him on the bottom of the tank

I personally would not use a cage/aquarium like that. That said, if I were you and on a bit of a buget, I would place higher priority on getting a UVB bulb first and and new cage after that. Make sure you have some desent air flow in there (I would geek out and put a computer fan on top of the screen just to make sure there is some good air circulation.)

P.S. I'd listen to Sandrachameleon and take notes, she's one of the Awesome-o's around here

I have been using a calcium + D3 suppliment. Most people around here use just calcium everyday, and then a calcium + D3 peroidically. I will leave it to the experts to comment more on that.

For gutloading, honestly, I follow this part of Sandra's blog:

https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/75-feeder-nutrition-gutloading.html

I should mention to, as has been said, a dripper will make life easier on you. You do need some kind of dripping thing going on, I let my dripper drip water onto a leaf. LB seems to like that best. I am using a "Little Dripper" from Zoo-Med, but a lot of people poke a hole in a styrofoam cup and let the water slowly drip out. I try for a rate of about one drop a second.

I'm not familiar with that particular brand. Could you type out the list of ingredients AND the guaranteed nutritional analysis? Once we see how much D3 etc is in it, we can advise as to how often to use it (and what else you might need).

The company is "CalanPro Labrotories" it promises to be Phosphorus free and here is the health analysis. . .
the health analysis says: "The primary importance of using REPTILE TRI-CAL is for the development and function of healthy skin, bone, muscle and blood coagulation, nerve impulse transmission, and egg production. Calcium supplementation also aids in the prevention of: Rickets, seizures and Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD)" thats the health anaylsis here are the ingredients
(CaCO3) a.k.a Calcium Carbonate, (HOCH2(CH(OH))4CO2)2 a.k.a Calcium Gluconate, (C6H10CaO6) a.k.a Calcium Lactate, and finially cholecalciferol a.k.a (Vitamin D3)
and there you have it! o_O

Hm. Regrettably, this doesnt tell us how much of the D3 is in it.
Is it a powder or a liquid?

I was unable to find the product online so I can't really help you with that. If you look at the bottle, does it have the guaranteed analysis on it anywhere? We are specifically looking for the D3, which is usually presented something like this: 12,345 IU/kg (or sometimes it says IU/lb instead.)

Like other have said, If you are trying to budget, I would buy the UVB bulb first and the cage second. Reptisun 5.0 tube bulbs are the most recommended, but reptiglo 5.0 tube bulbs are also used (and are cheaper.) The bulb can be purchased in stores (more expensive) or online. The actual fixture can be purchased online or at a home improvement store or a pet store. As for the cage, they are almost always cheaper to purchase online (even with shipping) unless you can find a used one local to you (check craigslist.) It is recommended that an adult male has a 24"x24"x48" cage, but you can get away with an 24"x24"x36" or 18"x18"x36" cage as long as he doesn't grow up to be a huge male. You can also just get one of the smaller ones for now and buy a new larger one for when he is older if you would like to get him a screen cage right away without having to pay for the large one.

I'm going to link you to some (much) cheaper cages, but they are more flimsy and tend to not last as long. They are also a little harder to work with because they have a zipper but the material they are made of helps hold in the humidity better. I don't personally find them any more difficult to work with as long as you are gentle with the cage.

Metal screen cages can also be found on that website. You can also make your own cage from wood, sealer, and some hardware cloth for a bit cheaper from a home improvement store.
