Chameleons color change help!

I have a blue bar ambilobe chameleon, he's about 6 months old and it makes me nervous because when he is in his cage he is darkish colors and when I hold him his colors are pretty. Ill post pic's, help please!

im old and rusty, but to me seems he is a bit warm. 85 degrees in lower canopy to me seems a bit warm. check the temps

He's a happy camper when he is with you!

Not necessarily, and a dangerous assumption! He is stimulated and reactive while he's being held and his colors reflect his more active state. His colors will get quieter when he's being left alone.
