hey i got an imprtant question---my panther chameleon never used to walk on the floor on his terranium, but for the past couple of days, he has been walking alot of the floor(which is covered in paper towels). Is this normal? Its almost as if hes looking for food down there, poking his head in every corner. Thanks in advance!

have you fed him latley?

yea i fed him 5 or 6 pretty large crickets today at around 1.(crickets were a little bit bigger than medium size)

How old is he?

My male panthers started to do this when they were around 8 - 10 months old and started to mature and looking for girlfriends. They were quite restless.

he will be 8 months this month. lol is he really looking for a girlfriend?

He could be! :D

Also what size cage do you have him in? I always knew when mine were ready for a bigger cage when they got restless as well. Is he just checking out his territory or could it be he is down there trying to cool down if the temps are too hot?

i have him in a 20"x18"x12". The thing is that I dont have any room for plants in the cage, I only have a couple of fake vines with fake leaves. I bought it from screameleons wen i got my cham. Would it be best if I took away the fake vines and just put real plants in there? The actual setup I got is on this link---http://www.screameleons.com/setup_kit.htm Let me know what would be best to do for my cham. Thanks!!

i would suggest a bigger cage if its within your means, and live plants are a good idea. Mine is about the same age and pretty restless as well, and hes in a custom 2'x2'x4' cage. But he really doesn't need a cage that big.

That is the exact set up I started with as I got my first cham from Screameleons! It is a great setup for youngsters and you dont have to worry about a thing as everything that you need is included. :)

At 7 months my boy wanted out and he wanted more space. (I have 4 and he is the only 1 that I semi free range as he doesnt like being cooped up even in a 24 x 24 x 48 cage) he was doing exactly what your boy is doing now.

Get him into the bigger cage when you can and he will really love having real plants (along with fake and the biovines etc). He will settle but will probally still explore his 'world' as my males still do and I think this is a healthy thing as long as all the rest of your husbandry is good and he is not trying to escape from too hot temps etc.

Mine still go looking for girls behind the potplants :D

My veiled (Gizzy) runs on the floor - most of the time because she is too impatient to wait for her crickets to come near her  but other times when i bring out the dreaded mister - she hates it. :(
