He needs to go to the vet asap.
If it already pussing hes going to need anitbotics to fight infections.
U should call your vet now and set up an appointment.

Hi,

Can anyone help, has he been lacking vitamins? i have stupidly recently not been giving him much calcium and has only been eating meal worms, does he need more variety?

Thanks for your help
Will

This probably has nothing to do with nutrition. It is a serious infection possibly from a thermal burn or an injury. A vet MUST check it, prescribe a specific antibiotic that the bacteria are sensitive to, and possibly remove the dead tissues. Nothing topical will deal with this at this point. Nutrition will help him generally but won't cure the infection.

Though it is hard to see without analyzing the exudate, that looks like a hematoma (collection of blood under the skin) and is usually caused by an injury, such as a fall or burn, or his tail may have been caught on something. If it is an abscess caused from infection, the purulent discharge (pus) would be white, yellow, green, or brown colored so note the different colors of discharge you see to let the vet know. Either way, he needs to be seen by a vet. Note any changes in size if it gets larger and try to remember if there were possibly any accidents that caused it when you go see the vet.
