Chameleon Shipped in HORRIBLE Shape...Help?

Hello!

Long story short...I was shipped a chameleon by a company when their product caused my first chameleon to pass away. The company sent me another, and some product to compensate.

Here are the issues, out of the box:

Pitch Black
Broken Crest (chunk missing)
EXTREMELY skinny
Eyes Sunken in
NO grip
Retained (or bad) shed
Dehydrated

Here's what we've done:

Shake of waxworms, crickets, red wigglers, reptiaid, pedialyte, kale, banana baby food (she ate fine on Saturday...I got her on Thursday...but has not eaten since Saturday. In fact, she will not even open her jaw to hiss at us when we pick her up). Since she has adjusted to her habitat, her colors are near white/light green. When we hold her, her colors are brilliant. She is also getting warm soaks (not actual water...just a warm, wet paper towel). Her grip has improved a LOT since she came in.

Her eyes are still sunken. She is still skinny. She will not eat. And what about that crest? Can it be helped?

Any suggestions? I am DISGUSTED at the company for caring for their animals in this manner!!!

I would harshly complain to that terrible company. Seriously.

I don't have experience with bad companies, but honestly, someone else must chime in. Just.. ugh. That makes me sad. :( Poor little cham.

this is so sad, anyone who can allow an animal to get in that shape and then to ship them in that conditionin should not be able to even own animals let alone breed and sell them....I would suggest force feeding her some bug juice she HAS to get some water and a little food in her or she definatly wont make it, but i would most definatly take her to a vet she could be in some pain as well.

Can someone please send/post that recipe for me? Is there anything wrong with what we fed her before (mentioned in post #1)?

The bug juice i make is very easy. Buy ensure(adult liquid meal), pedalite (baby product), add a bit of dry, plain calcium, Blend it all together, then add the bugs(I use crickets - they blend well) and blend again. Strain before you use. I only keeps 2 days in the frig so don't make much at a time. I drip it on the chams mouth. If you put it into the mouth the cham may choke on it.

I have a small blender I use for my chams. If I put bugs in our blender hubby would kill me.

That is hilarious! And also thanks for the bug juice recipe! Anyway back to the main topic-make sure your cham is eating and getting at least SOME water with bug juice and a trip to the vet wouldn't hurt. Pics would help greatly and soon a vet such as ferret should post here and help:).

It did cross my mind as to which blender you used:D

To the op. I'm so sorry you have had this experience . You also sound as if you are committed to helping your little one. Good luck.:)

Zoe did not make it. I wrote this post from my computer at work yesterday, and when I got home from work, she was gone. The company is sending another to my work tomorrow, so I will let you guys know how it goes. Thank you to everyone for reaching out to a new member. I really appreciate it. I will keep that recipe too.

I am so sorry for your loss and that you had to experience the hardest part about owning a chameleon right off the bat, one passing away. It doesn't take long to get attached to these little guys and it is so hard to see them in distress and not be able to help.

I hope there is some bad karma headed the way of the package handler that abused your package he came in

We are here to support you and answer any questions you may have going forward and would love to watch your new little guy grow and thrive. :D

very sorry to hear zoe didnt make it :( i really hope things work out better this next time.. keep us posted and cant wait to see your new friend
