Chameleon making noise??

Anyone know of jackson chameleons making almost like a croaking noise? This has happend twice now. I just picked him up yesterday and he did it once while I was gone to the store and my sister called me kinda freaked out by it. Today he did it again! He seems to be doing fine though he's active and has an appetite.

I've seen him do it once and he's been drinking alot of water so maybe heat regulation?
FYI its pretty loud its not something you need to get close to to hear. I read another post in here saying that some species of montane chameleons do make noises.

One of my females did this. You could hear her from across the room. She seemed fine but actually croaked (as in died) a couple days later. Keep an eye on him. I hope yours is ok.

I would take him to a vet. I suspect it's a respiratory infection.

They are not noisy animals. If you are hearing them repeatedly, it indicates a problem. A vet can help.

Did you get 'buzzed' at the same time? When they don't like what you are doing they vibrate a short sharp vibration through their bodies. I head my female make a low noise at the same time once. Here's a link to my thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/i-got-buzzed-sound-effects-39299/

He was in his cage when he did it and it only happens at night around the time the lights are about to go off or right after. I watched him all day today and he was acting fine. No gaping of the mouth no noises nothing! :) He munched on like 20 small crickets and was still exploring his place. I looked at his mouth while he was eating the crickets and there was no signs of excess mucus. I hope this was just his lion roar claming his land lol :/ I'm gonna try and make an appointment with the vet just to be on the safe side. He's only been in my care for three days now, but I've already come to love the little dude :)

I think you need to assume it's a medical problem. At night, when things are shutting down seems to be when they relax a bit and let the symptoms show. As prey animals, they don't display weakness when they are likely to be hunted.

To me, what you're saying is a red flag that means: see a vet.

I took Camelio to the vet this Monday and the vet didn't think he was severe, so thats good :). She ended up giving me some antibiotics for the infection and some antiseptic spray for his skin. She spotted some black spots on him. Anyone ever seen these tiny black spots?

can you post a pic of said black spots? so did your guy have a respiratory infection?

second that..sounds respiratory....

i have had my female emitt a purring effect.its a few seconds at a time..also have had others do it..very odd..only heard of soo many instances..

as for a loud croak, like a frog..they dont make sounds like that ...(especially the fact that they cant really hear except for low frequencies, would lead me to believe its maybe a problem mentioned above)

He's actually sleeping now so I don't want to disturb his slumber so no pictures lol :) I'll take some tomorrow. The vet looked in his mouth and around his nostrils and no signs of mucus build up. I told her about the noise and she said that it most likely is a RI. He's been on his meds for three days now and I haven't heard any more noises. He still opens his mouth from time to time but shows no signs of discomfort or lack of apetite. I'll take some pics to show the spots and I'll see if I can catch him opening his mouth again.

The initial sound was loud enough to where I had the tv on and I could still hear it :/ :( but it hasn't happened anymore! :)

Ok to the tomororw for pics. as for the opening of the mouth, it coudl be from the ri, it could be his temps are too hot,. they will open their mouths ot self regulate their body temps.

I got him at 84f high side and 77 low side and a cool mist humidifier that runs a few times a day and twice a night to cool him off some more at night. I'm trying to figure out the best water supply now and I'm still not sure what he likes best. I tried a dripper but he doesn't seem to notice it at all. I have a water bowl with a air supply to move the water and I'm gonna let him try that one out for a bit. I do mist his plants twice a day when I'm home but I would like him to have a supply of water while i'm gone.

might want to reduce his temps to 80. dont mist at night, that might be contributing to his ri.
no water bowl- breeds bacteria. moving water or not.
my guy doesnt notice the dripper either, but it lets him have water if he needs it.
just cuz oyu dont see your guy drinking from it, doesnt mean he isnt.

Well 84F is where the basking light is aimed at. Everywhere else its in the high 70's. I don't mist him at night I just have the humidifier running to give him the night cool down. Hopefully another Jackson owner will chim in ;). I change the water out everyday and when I was using the dripper system I got it to drip into a catch cup. Is it still bad to have sitting water then?

Here is a picture of the spot I was talking about and I also included some pics of him :)
