Chameleon Itching Eye

Okay, thanks so much in advance to these answers! ive done lots of research, check forums, ect. ect. but i am a brand new Cham owner, i just wanna confirm i think the problem was dehydration.

Chameleon: baby veiled cham 3 days ago.
Wateringa dripping system. i wasnt misting... but i am now. see below description for more details
backyard, off of a cottonwood tree. during winter. if that means anything.
Handling not much. like i said... ive only had him 3 days :/
Feeding 6 or so appropirate sized crickets a day
suplements reptocal d3 and vitamin cricket dusting powder. i only have used this once so far, yesterday
Fecal Description looks fine! black and white. like it should look accoriding to what i could find on the forums.
History currently being written :D

Cage Type. i have him in a 16x16x30 screen enclosure.
Lighting 100 watt heat bulb, halogen, about, 2 inches above the top of the screen. i also have a uvb floresant http://www.petco.com/product/111653...Fluorescent-Fixture.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch. is that the problem?
Temperature bottom of the cage is room temp (about 70) and the basking area around 85-90
Humididty have not bought a gauge. see descripition below :)
Plants i have pothos, and dracenea plants. thats mostly it. also, i got some sticks from the
Placement on a desk. the cage is 30 inches tall, and the desk is about the same. so, the top of the cage stands about... 5-6"
Location winter desert of southern idaho

so the last three days, he occasionally rubs his left eye against the sticks. when he does it, he does it so hard it makes me cringe! after hes done rubbing, there are some slight dead skin flakes on his left eye. however hes still eating, and pooping just fine. he eats like rambo acctually :D . his left eye looks allitle swollen, but he still didnt have it closed.

why i think it might be hyrdation, because up untill this morning, i only had 1 pothos in there. today, i bought the two draceneas so more plants, helps humidity. i also, since i had the dripper... didnt think to mist him with a spray bottle :S now i realize... i must! but i hadnt misted him for two days.

i decided to rinse his eyes with saline solution. then i gave him a shower (i also now realize, showering a baby cham is NOT a good idea. sorry rookie mistake... however he didnt drown and is okay!) this morning, misted him today, and his eye wasnt as swelling near as bad! in fact... he seamed almost normal! so thats why i think it was probably just dehydration :)
this evening though, i decided to flush his eyes with saline solution just for good measure, and right before he went to bed he scratched his eye again... more vigourous and gut wrenching than usual! makes me sick to watch. but perhaps it was just the saline wash...

anyways. thanks you guys. tomarrow, i will start misting more. heavilly. i also will turn up the drips. moistened the floor (i had a dry "reptile carpet" at the bottom... now its a wet reptile carpet hehe) so... this should increase the humidity, and hopefully i will see him do better :)

what do you guys think? this is a reasonable idea? i just wanted to confirm all this. i love my little cham :D like my friend says, it turned me into a liitle giggly 8 year old hehe. thanks everybody,

Lancelot!

ps.
if you think it might be something else... please let me know.
i also have 18 hours left on my health guarentee... i already contacted them and they said they'd take him back... but thats a last resort i really really really dont want to do that. but if you all think its a serious enough problem to do so... lemme know. thanks everyone, i hereby welcome myself to the forum :)

i forgot to mention, its a aluminum screen enclosure. and he is a male.
he also rubbed his eye the first day i got him. which... was an hour drive from the petshop (zamzows)

:)Hello and welcome to the forum. It would really help if you could post a clear pic of his eye. I could think of a couple things off the top of my head so maybe a pic can clear it up. Could be an incomplete shed he's trying to get off, something in his eye, or and eye infection. Please post a pic showing your concern and hopefully one of our more experienced keepers can see something to help more.

Eye Squinty :S

this morning, his eye is squinty and closed. what should i do? :S

anybody? sorry to rush... but my "72 hour" health guarentee ends in 4 hours...

btw, look at my first post, hit the link to that UVB light... tell me what you think about it

Are his eyes staying closed during the day or just while he's scratching, the pictures you have of his "squinty eyes" looks like they are closed, something similar to what my cham is going through and if he's not opening them it's going to get hard through. How ever if he is keeping them open I wouldn't worry too much and it may just be some shed or something stuck in his eye, maybe a trip to the vet would be better than taking him back?

Edit:
My post for Karma if you're interested

Thank you sinfulintent! i found lots of interesting information on your thread :)
i just heavilly misted naveen, and he has acctually opened his eye and moving in quite freely now. still looks... not quite as good as the other eye but still better. ill be getting rid of my 100watt halogen! way to hot! just a 60-75 incondesent bulb is what i should use? hmmm. and no night light 60w black bulb?

anyways, ima get a plain calcium supplement. get more humididty too. thanks for the link to the thread.

No problem that's what we are here for! Glad my thread could help someone, certainly helped me (somewhat still havin issues) definitely no night light unless it gets too cold at night. Yes I regular house hold 60w light is fine no special light along with a seperate UVB light, I'm about to put mine on seperate timers, so I can put my UVB to come on 30 min before and after my heat lamp so he has a little more "ease" into the night and morning. Not necessary but some people say it helps cams he keep moving at night and mine does so I'll see how it works out.Good luck with your cham! :)
