I also don't know if this is the right place for this thread I just had to get it put up somewhere as I'm thinking of rescuing this little creature from it's sad surroundings

Unfortunately you cannot tell what locale she is due to the fact that all females regardless the locale look the same. Only way you will know is if they can tell you, which i doubt they can.

Are you going to rescue her?

I really want to I have $100 of the $229 and I could make a new enclosure in a jiff

@bebo it's terrible she's actually gone down hill a little since they got her about 2 1/2 weeks ago I know they haven't. Hanged the uv bulbs in the enclosures since they set them up 4-5 years ago (my friend works there)
She'll change which eye she keeps open, there's crickets running all over the bark and millworms in a dish with moldy fruit (that I made them clean b4 I would leave) humidity of the car is 15% according to their gauge and temp was 78 so yeah she needs rescued!

Try to haggle the price down. I once went into a Petco and saw an adult female crested gecko in aweful shape - no tail, her feet looked like nubbins because there was so much dry shed twisted around her toes, she was just skin and bones - And I got her price down. I think I paid like $10 of the $60 she was worth.

It's worth a try if you really want to bring her into a good home. Tell them rationally that they'll probably lose her if her conditions persist like this (perhaps bring a photo of what a really healthy female looks like) and that they're better off taking some money than taking a loss on her completely. You have to appeal to their business, at the end of the day, not necessarily their morality.

I wouldn't bother helping the pet store by buying her. Paying even a penny just shows them that they can keep the animals like that and someone will still want them.

It's not really rescuing her IMO if the store benefits from you getting her. Even if they gave her to you for free, you're still helping the store by freeing up space for another one. So, you removing her from the situation in any way is helping the store.

Sometimes, when you want the store to stop carrying certain animals, the best thing to do is leave them so the store learns that they cannot keep the animal correctly. They figure out that they end up loosing money on the animal because of the inadequate care.

Of course you should be trying to inform the employees first to see if they can bring up their care standards or stop carrying the animals all together. The best situation would be that you can get them to get better husbandry wise or stop stocking AND they give her to you for free. Ultimately, this is the situation you want.

That all sounds ^^^ great but this store would all just chalk it up as the animal was unhealthy when they got it not anything that they've done wrong my friend that works there has tried to change things up and they won't allow him to it's all a sad case really

Well, in that case, if they have the animal die in their possesion, perhaps they would stop buying them because they are "unhealthy" from the beginning.

I zoomed in on her picture, and it looks like she might be carrying eggs. Her belly looks very large from the angle.

she a) looks gravid and seems to be carrying a lot of eggs
b) her enclosure is glass, she is in a large pet store that is already very warm and humid
c) God only knows how long she's been there, and how they take care of her (feeding and supplimenting)

its a risk you're going to take, but i totally agree with (pssh i believe) that even spending a penny will not make a statement, or will have an effect for the store to take better care.
