hi my veiled chameleon has had a black cheek for a couple of days one day it swapped sides and then went back to the other and has stayed there for 3 days anyone no what it could be will post pics when i no how to do it
You need to fill this form out if anyone is to help you. Personally I say get to a reptile vet that has experience with chameleons if possible. ASAP!!!!!! It really really needs to see a vet.
I would waste no time filling this out personally and start looking for a vet and get an appointment ASAP!!! After that is taken care of you can fill the form out so people can help you correct what is going wrong.
Def looks like a burn seeing how close that basking spot is. What kind of bulb are you using? You need calcium quick because your cham is starting to develop metabolic bone disease.
Look at his front leg in the second picture, that bendy limb looks like a case of MBD. But I may be wrong. I have to agree with the others too, it looks like a burn. This is very likely as it looks like the chameleons basking spot is too close to the bulb.
I agree you need an experienced chameleon vet ASAP. He appears to have calcium issues due to the bending of his limbs. Please fill out the How To Ask For Help form in detail so we can check your husbandry. Personally, it doesn't look like a burn to me.
You need to get your chameleon to a good reptile vet ASAP. There is something wrong with that discoloration. Could be a toxin or excessive heat. The front and back limbs are very deformed. It looks like MBD. This is a very sick chameleon. Please get it some help right away.....this is not something you can cure him of yourself.
HI EVERYONE i found out that she has mbd on reptile forums and she is being treated for it. the vet hasnt got a clue what the colour thing is but then they arent the best vets. as regard to it being a burn thats one thing i can definately say it is not as the black swaps sides. and thers no way she could burn herself on it as the light is 3 inches off the top of the cage and is a sun glo bulb exo terra think it a 15watt gives off a fair bit off heat but even the mesh doesnt get that hot to be able to burn. the wire is outside the tankand is from the waterfall in her tank.
there is a waterfall in there because thats what the vet said you should have and the shop i bought her from as they wont drink standing water so it was recommended it is an exo-terra waterfall. can i ask how it causes bacteria problems when it is cleaned out daily and surely spraying water would cause the same problem.
It is recommended not to use a waterfall. A dripper or misting is preferred. Do a quick search of the forum for 'waterfall' and you'll see plenty of info.
Sounds like the pet store just wanted to sell you a waterfall lol they do nothing for your cham. I would take it back to the pet store and say thanks for the cham with MBD and a waterfall that is just a hazared and waste of space. besides if ur cham falls off a branch in it it might beable to drown due to the weak bones.
ok then here goes
age = 6 months
sex= female
i have had her nearly a month
handling is kept to a minimum very rarely handled
dusting was just nutrabol once a week and is now also hving pure zoomed calcium every other day
sprayed every day 3xtimes for about 3 minutes always seen drinking
droppings look like brown and yellow minature sausages
housing
glass exo terra tank 60x60x60
heat source sun glo exoterra bulb uv light bulb 5.0 on for 10hrs a day
temp is 25c in the night 28-29c during the day in basking spot. other temp is 25c during the day and 25 at night roomm temp is always 25c
humidity is around 70%
there are no live plants in the tank
the tank is 4ft from the floor in a bedroom
Sounds good but you should get live plants due to chameleons tend to eat a leaf sometimes if there is only fake plans it may try to eat a fake leaf you should dust every day with cal. and I dust once a week no phos. cal d3 it is very important to keep up on the calcium every day due to the mbd what do you use to gut load with
How is the temp always 25c?
There should be a drop at night.

I hope the new calcium intake helps with the mbd. Might i suggest that you go to the shop you bought her from and let them know that chams need calcium daily... even more so for females and the production of their egg clutches.
You will need to produce a laying bin for her when she starts to show receptive colours, it means she could be working on a clutch of infertile eggs and will need a place to dig and lay them.
