Chameleon freaked out outside?

So my veiled who's about a year freaked out when i took him outside. I've taken him out before and he just roams around.
But this last time he blew up pretty big and turned very bright (almost white looking) and was hissing and seemed to be be freaking out like crazy. After putting him in his enclosure he's back to normal.

Any reason why that happened??

Maybe he saw a danger outside that you didn't. Sometimes a big bird or Hawk will get a response.

I don't think so. Everything was the same as it was the other times i've brought him out.

He obviously saw something that upset him as this sounds like a classic extreme stress/desperate display response. Chams have extremely acute eyesight...much better than humans...possibly even colors we can't see. You may never know what it was, but the point is, he is back to normal now that he's inside. Hard to say whether it will happen again though. When you take him out again make sure there is a lot of cover in the cage so he can hide if he feels the need.
