No, do not give chicken food. Chameleon need live feeders like crickets, roaches, and worms such as super worms, hornworms and silkworms. Some chams will also each small amounts of fruits and veggies.
fruits ?? no its ok to give some fruits as a snack but they are insectivores so they need live insects if you can not by them then breed them catch them and breed them
Tima, I don't think you're understanding us. Chameleons NEED to eat insects, and preferably live insects. Chameleons actually will not recognize an insect as food unless it's moving around. Ocassionally you can get a chameleon to eat a little bit of fruit or veggies but they can't SURVIVE on a diet of veggies alone. It's like a tiger, tigers NEED meat to survive and would not do well eating apples and oranges for very long.
I'm sure you can get a hold of insects somewhere in SA, even if you have to go out and catch them yourself. But unfortunately, your chameleon will not be able to survive very long without insects.
some chams wont eat fruits and vegetables at all. Mine wont. either way you cant feed them primarily fruit/veg ..
if you have no other option try making some bug traps, and catching bugs. theirs plenty of threads on how to make pitfall traps and fly traps.
