Chameleon Falling

Hi Everyone :)
Me again, I've been hanging around, but not posting much... it's been quite busy and have not been on line much.

Anyway, Billy, my 1.5 year old Veild has been falling from his cage - it's happening everday and at a tall drop.

His cage is the XL Screen cage - So about 4 feet tall. He also has stopped eating completely. No crickets or any type of worm (which are his favorites)
His cage is set up properly - I've posted pic's of it here before. Using the UVA/UVB lighting and have a basking house bulb on the side. Humididity ranges from 85 up top to 40 down below.

This all started about a week ago - yesterday he fell over 5 times. I do not have a smaller cage to put him in unless I switch his cage to the female veild cage which is about 3 feet. so I put some soft blankets at the bottom to at least cushion his fall.

This is all very disheartening as he has always been in perfect health - we dust with calcium and D3 and follow his diet to the "T"..... so I wouldn't think MBD. But who knows. I'm just getting very worried.

I will say his color looks fine - still beautiful bright colors and his legs/arms do not look deformed at all - I took him out of his cage yesterday to try and give him some liquid calcium and he still has a good grip on me... just not on the cage??

Sorry for being so long winded!

What is the supplement schedule and types you are using?
What type of uvb bulb are you using? How old is it?
can you please post a few side pictures of him?

Falling once, normal.
Doing the suicide drop (they suddenly let go and fall because you scared them) normal.
Falling repeatedly, not normal, and is normally a sign of MBD.

This is what I'm thinking too :( His light is a 5.0 Reptisun and is only about 4 months old...we replace every 9-12 months.

Dusting with Calcium 3 x week (Usually every other day) And D3 once a week.

Yes, this is the falling Like straight down suicide :(

Well your supplement schedule is off.
If you are using d3 every week, this could be causing some ill side effects.
The normal schedule for veileds is..
calcium without d3 every feeding.
calcium with d3 TWICE a month.
a multivitamin twice a month.

Can you post some pictures?
UVB bulbs start to lose their umph at around 6 monhts. which si when we recommend replacing them.

That makes sense -
I thought I was off on supplements...

I am at work, but let me see what I have on my phone and I will post them..... With the bulb only being less than 4 months old, I'm not thinking that could be it.....

No worries. Just get it corrected. I would cut back the d3 for a while though.
here is a thread about too much d3.

Because he has a uvb bulb and was getting excess d3, this could be causing the problem.
However, it still could be mbd. or something else entirely.

Im sure others will chime in soon, but the supplkement schedule needed to be dealt with.
To make your life easier, I suggest getting repashy all in one calcium plus (for geckos) it has everything you cham needs in one powder.. so no more of what day of the month should he get what powder, etc.

Well his limbs do look good. no bowing, or signs of breaks.
I dont see any swelling of the ankles or wrists, which could be a sign of gout.

I would suggest, take a few more pictures when you get home, of him from teh side... and we can go from there.

So I could use that Repashy and use daily or every other? Thanks so much for your help!!

I use every other dya to every two days.. BUT thats because my guy doesnt eat every day or every other day.. hes also almost 11 months old.
You can use it every day if you like. just a light dusting on all the feeder bugs.

Will do - I'll bring him out - which is strange as well, usually he hisses at me or lunges at me when I try to hold him *so I rarely do* but now, he just lets me hold him (just within the last week) - so I'm not sure if he is like "Giving up" or something??
