Chameleon eating dirt?

Hey guys I want to apologize for making so many threats. I get so paranoid by everything since this is my first chameleon and this one is kind of important. I saw my chameleon shoot his tongue twice down into my new plant's dirt. I thought he was shooting for a cricket then i noticed he was going for it. I immediately rush to move him away from this and now I am really worried something might happen. It didn't seem like he got a huge amount but just a tiny little piece. Second of all I don't know what to cover it with. Could you please let me know if something might happen to him and how to cover it?Thanks and sorry for so many posts. I really mean no intention in bothering anyone

This most probably means she doesn´t get enough minerals.
Just give her more of them and the Problem should be solved.
Is your cham a female?

Normal mineral supplements contain not only calcium but also micronutrients, but mainly yes.
How about offering some smell pieces of cuttlebone in his cage that he can shoot if he feels like he needs to?

If that doesn´t help you might have to increase the D3 you give him.
As you probably know, they cannot use calcium if they do not have enough D3 so this may be another problem.

His first meal when i got home was with D3, but since I was kind of scared I didn't really powder them with enough calcium with D3 powder. Should I try to put some D3 powder again on one of his meals?

I know you just got him and you have been doing a real good job. Make sure you put stones over your dirt as suggested. I feel everything will be alright once you get the dirt covered and this doesn't happen again. You only need to dust food lightly. I can't recall what your dusting with.

Well, there´s obviously something wrong or would you call it normal for a cham to eat dirt?

My Cham got what i would deem enough suppliments and he still tries to eat soil. As already stated, place flat (larger than he can swallow) river stones and done!

They will also try to eat their poop. So keep your cage poop free.

PS: Soil eating can be an inpaction hazzard, and he could also take in fertilizer what can be toxic.

Well, i never heard of aomething like this from well supplemented chams around here.
Just when the chams didn´t have enough/no supplements.

Do you house your Cham with a open soil plant?

I give my Cham gutloaded feeders, Repashy's Cal PLUS daily, and sometimes still do Cal with D3 two times a month. And if given a chance he will chomp on soil.

I have 20cm of substrate in my whole terrarium in which the plants are sdirectly planted just as most european keepers do it and we do normally not have this problem at all.
