ok i made this thred to discuss chameleons drinking....so evryone knows its extreamly common to not see your chameleon drink. if his eyes are not sunk in like this ( this is an extream case of dehydration) then hes in good health...also you dont want orange urate...having white urate with a yellow tip is ok.....chams dont like to be caught drinking...it makes them vonrable...they will most likely drink when your not around...some do some dont...just mist and drip! and good luck, and always check eyes and urate. dehydrated.jpg

The only time I ever saw Lily drink from a leaf was the day I brought her home! She did learn to drink from a syringe (no needle) and would usually have a drink near to lights out time. I was always worried that she didn't drink enough and she more often than not had a slight orange tip to her urates, but she did only empty her bowels once a sweek or so. I just figured that the longer the urates are in the body, the more dehydrated and orange looking they become. At her post mortem I asked the vet about her kidneys and he said that they looked ok, and this put my mind at rest, so she must have been a secret drinker.

They do lick their lips when misted and drink a small amount this way. Also I was told that they can absorb moisture from the humidity in the enclosure. I have got Amy to take water from a syringe too but she'll only drink when she wants to!

Tommy, on the other hand, needs a bit of encouragement! He had a sripper and a (nasty) bowl of water that he drank from. He wasn't misted that often before I got him - he just had water flicked at him, so he is getting used to being misted and he does lick his lips. I did get him to drink almost a whole syringe full when I first got him home and put him in his cage as he was very thirsty after his journey. He produced a rather orange urate and very moist poop this morning. I am reserving judgement until he is settled and produces another for me to inspect! I am trying to get him to drink at every opportunity. Having said that his eyes are very full looking and he doesn't look dehydrated at all so I am putting this one down to the stress of being relocated.
