Chameleon Canteen

I need help watering my chameleon Chet. I am 12 and am gone at school all day. He HATES the misting water bottle and runs every time. Is there something I can buy to make a watering system, like a waterfall that he won't drown in? He is only 2 months old and a Jackson Chameleon.

Stay away from canteens or anything else you cham may use for a toilet. Bacteria can be nasty so no water that sits around.

Yep, as SocialNumb says invest in (or your parents anyways) a misting system that keeps him hydrated and misted all day long. Some Chameleons aren't fond of it, but it's required and they get used to it as they grow.

A misting system is fantastic, but do NOT get a cheap one like a monsoon or a reptifogger. They have bad reputations for breaking and flooding. Save up for the mistking, but they cost about $110. Misting systems are wonderful since you can set them to run automatically, but they are not required if you mist by hand and use a dripper.

For now, get a Little Dripper. They cost less than 10$ and you can get it at any pet store. Adjust the nozzle to get about 1 drips a second, no more. It will seem slow, but remember, your Jax is a tiny little guy. Sit the dripper on top of the cage and position it so the drips land on a vine or leaf where he can sit under it. You'll need something to catch the water. You can use a shallow bowl or fresh paper towels every day.

Some chameleons prefer drips over misting anyway. My Jax always preferred dripping. Then you can mist once in the morning and afternoon for a humidity boost. Adding a dripper will let your chameleon have access to moving water all day without worrying he will drown.

The Chameleon cantina's have a carbon filter in them so that the water gets filtered out when its running. Also it has a "blocker" so neither the chameleons or their food can fall through it and drown. I know Jannb was selling 3 of them if you want one. I plan on getting 2 for my boys when I complete their adult enclosure. Oh and the carbon filter can be changed too.

Here's a link to it on amazon.com

filters don´t kill bacteria. If anything they provide a good place to establish himself. Jacksons are particularly sensitive to bacteria infection and mouth rot so stay AWAY from any waterfalls, and standing still water in the terrarium. buy a regen system if you want to invest in a good way to water your chameleon.
