Cham intelligence

Perfect example, yours associates your removal and return of the cup with being fed.
Ill bet if your just there to clean poo it dosent bother if you dont touch the cup?
On the other hand, if it does check out the cup whenever you go to the cage, then its association is with your presence and food. My money is on the first. :)

Mine definitely recognizes the cup. He sees it and the eyes instantly switch to stereo and he leans forward, even when he clearly hasn't seen the bug yet, and has to take a little time to find it.
I don't know if this is "intelligence", but I'll throw it out there. Thaxter likes to eat. Thaxter (seems) to like to climb on me. If I hold out the cup and he eats the bug, I think, "Good; he's fed," and walk away. One several occasions I've seen him get excited at the cup, bring the eyes into stereo, then pull them out of stereo (independent swiveling again), walk across the cup onto my arm, then eat the bug. As though he knows if he eats the bug first, he only gets to eat the bug, but if he climbs on me first, he gets to both eat the bug and sit on me.

Ofcourse it wont! I just said that! because its there 'all the time'. They will if they associate it with food, more so if food is not constantly available.

Thats probably because they are use to it being there and used to taking their time to investigate if it contains food. Again, its there all the time.
If you only introduced the cup to the cage when it had food and removed it when it was empty, you would see they will get used to idea of the cup appears=theres food!
This is how the pavlovian response works.
I beleive they get used to timing aswell. mine heads directly for the dripper when the lights come on at the same time each morning. This is because I turn the dripper on when the lights come on ....at the same time each morning!

Get it now? :)

i understood the first time, but i remove the food cup and add it in with new food, because i clean it before i put fresh food in it. no response they just wander upon it. that being said i forget where i had the cups exactly so they get moved a little bit, but they were both free ranged before i switched to cup, and both have the same habits of eating. i put a leaf of romaine in there last night and they gobbled it up. the crushed equate tums that are flavored are like crack to them im guessing it tastes like fruit to them to (i tried them before i crushed them up, and they actually taste pretty good to not have any type of sweetener in it. it you analyze anything to the root though even people we salivate, or know where to go to get food from thought recognition. if i came from africa and i saw a tacobell on the corner i probably wouldnt go there to get food because its not the norm. me and one of my professors were looking at something, and we both over analyzed it and couldnt figure out the bigger picture lol i forget what it was about, but took us like 2 hours to figure it out since we were both like minded someone didnt interject to say back it up a notch. so that all being said everything will have an visual association mental response to a physical reaction on certain things =)

THONGS!!! HAHAHA What a hot hornworm in that pink thong!!! Ok, I see I'm not the only one that headed that direction while reading post.

My chams recognize both feeding and misting times. When I grab my hand mister, those that are ready for a drink begin proceeding to the spot where I will allow the water to drip for a drink. If they are not thirsty, then they just sit and watch me mist the enclosure.

Food...depending on item determines reaction.... I have one that boogies when he sees me walking into the room with the container which holds horns!! I can't open his door fast enough, he already has licked lips & tongue is getting ready to grab that juicy worm!

They are very smart creatures I believe :)

its pretty neat when chams " learn " to associate things with feeding. its unfortunate that almost everyone that posted on this thread said theirs acts in this way and yours dont.

i hand fed mine alot, those that do, you know about having to pinch the prey to keep it in one spot. the responses your all describing as far as the cham associating the cup with food, was triggered by me approaching the cage. they would get excited and move to the front of the cage and wait in the same spot.

you would think they would associate my pinched fingers with food and respond, but seeing my pinched fingers would cause them to fire. I didnt even have to have prey pinched. before feedings, after, during, any time they would fire at my pinched fingers.

we didnt be little their intel,.....they did....when they shot at my empty fingers, thats like shooting at an empty cup.

also of note, i eventually got them to get excited and move to the same spot and wait for food buy snaping my fingers and clapping.

I had to snap my finger before every item offered.

if your referring to me in the "dont" then i would have to say they associate food with food and nothing else. they only bother to mess with moving objects, or if i hang a leaf of romaine they will go to it, but they dont like for me to watch them eat, or drink

Thongs are also a form of footwear that have a strap that holds them on that fits between the big toe and the second toe.

Also know as Flip flops :p

They were around long before the butt floss versions
