Cham Drinking?

I purchased a cham a few days ago. I have experience with other reps mainly Iguanas. This thing I mist its cage I never see him drink and he runs from the water. Literally runs. How can I ensure he is drinking? He is 6 weeks old.

sometimes you can't! The only thing to do is watch his urate(the white part of his pee) which should be white, not orange. Orange means he is not getting enough water. Some chameleons do not drink infront of people as weird as it sounds. If you are concerned about that, you can always run a dripper. Honestly, my chameleon rarely drinks from mistings and I rely on the dripper for hydration. Is he eating? you just got him and he may not eat or drink for the first few days cause he is getting used to everything.

drinking

along with misting my guys are trained to drink water from an oral syringe by placing drops of water on there mouth & if they want it they drink so now if they see the syringe they automatically take it

The best way to know if he's drinking is to keep a close eye on his poop. It will have two parts to it and if the light colored part is nice and white then you'll know he's drinking. If it's yellow or orange then he's not getting enough water. Jann

you should get a dripper or just mist and dont let him see you. my cham if im near by wont drink but if i put the dripper and leave the immediate area he will drink up all the water. you can try hornworms too they are a treat feeder but also provide good hydration

what type of cham is he? if he won't go near the mister or dripper and his urates are real bad try a luke warm shower. Point the nozzle so he gets a mist bouncing off the shower wall(don't drench him!), be sure the water isn't too warm.. Sometimes a shower wills stimulate them to drink.
