Cham doesn't want to go back in?

Hi everyone,

Our seven-month old veiled Thomas is doing superbly; he's eating great, his temperatures (from what I frequently check here) and humidity are good, he's shedding on schedule and he is growing up to be a big fellow.

There's only one thing that I'm wondering about.

For the past few weeks I've been putting him on a plant in the window for a little bit whenever I'm home. He seems to love it: he always picks a sunny spot, eats very quickly when we put something in front of him, and he is always curious about people passing by (we live on the first floor).

I noticed a change in his behaviour: he now spends a lot of his time on the walls of his flexarium. Whenever I come to get him out he races into my arms, and then when he has to go back, he climbs back onto my shoulder quickly.

Am I making him afraid of his cage? Or is he just taking advantage of my new owner knowledge by bribing me into leaving him out?

Do you suggest a serious FR setup for every day, or should I stick to every now and then when we're home?

Thanks for your answers!

I can't say that I blame him. Would you want to go back in a cage? If you have a safe area where you can set up a permanent free range I'm sure he'd love it. Some of my free ranges are below (old pictures) and if you check the free range section of the forums under enclosures you can see many pictures of free ranges to give you some ideas.....most are allot better than mine. :)

You're right, Jannb! When I see him relaxing on a plant in the window, or climbing around a little I feel so happy! He seems incredibly active and trusting of us, which I love. I just sat next to him on the couch, and he immediately came to the front of the cage ready to get out.

I'm going to look at free range setups! Thanks for the tip :D
