Okay, took Carmine out for some pictures. We named him Carmine because we thought he was going to be red... maybe we should have named him old yeller? His bars are really turning shades of blues...Hahhahaha. He is getting BEAUTIFUL!

Beautiful Japanese maple you have there, mine aren't taking off at all. Oh by they way cute cham hehe!

Thanks! The Chameleons really love hanging out in them too... I have a few different varieties of Japanese Maples... LOVE THEM.

How often do you handle him, and if he is so feisty how do you get him out of enclosure without a fight ?

I've always been a fan of veiled chams but I see so many great looking panthers here that my tastes are starting to change.

He gets handled about once a month. While other chameleons get to go outside regularly, it is difficult because he bites and runs very quickly. When we do take him out, I go slowly, put my hand underneath him, and he still bites me. I don't pull away and take him out of the cage... he hates me.

I feel yah, Trogdor is the exact same way. I'm fine not handling him but I would still like to take him out so I can work on his enclosure or take him outside.

But NOOOO!!! i'm just a big predator that for some reason feeds, waters, and cleans up after him.

LOL i know exactly how you feel..

Fry acted the same way for awhile. He would hiss every time I came near. Even though he is pissed I just sweep my hand underhim and lift. They can sense your fear and will only become more bitey if you act scared.

I found that positive reinforcement is the best way to keep them from being so scared. He loves to go onto his free range ficus while I'm cleaning and whenver we head outside he is happy the instant he feels sunlight on him. I only handle him to clean his cage or take him outside.

I do not "play" with my chameleon.

Now he is 'tolerant' of me getting him. He is never excited for me to open his cage unless I have food. lol. He's very territorial and just doesn't like me grabbing for him, but he seems happier and more willing since I have been taking him outside. I hope he will be less afraid and territorial in the future (he's only 8 months and still has a lot of growing to do) and be a little more excited when I try to get him, but if not oh well

A lot of people mess up by putting them back in the cage whenever their chams are aggresive. This just teaches them that if they bite they will be left alone. I'm not saying you should handle them more often. I'm just saying to handle with confidence

Yeah I think I'm also going to start offering treats in my hand. Maybe this will help to associate me as less of a threat.

I don't think trogdor is territorial, he is just scared of everything. Maybe I should stop sneaking up on him with my luchador mask on

Those are awesome pics. He is still young and has awesome coloration already. He may still get some reds in his barring. I am thinking it may show more when he fires up.

Ya, he is by far the most feisty chameleon we have... with a close runner-up being a cocky Nosy Be. I know I'm going to take a bite when I take him out. I just let him grab hold and think he gets the best of me... Thankfully, his bites aren't any worse than a clothes pin right now...

I have really enjoyed seeing him color up and age. He is so active and healthy... I never asked you if you have any pictures of his sire others in his line. Love to see them! We are still hoping his bars turn red... he has red bars in his tail and along his spine. *fingers crossed*
