Car shopping can go die. -.-"

So, I've been shopping around for a car for the past two-three weeks. I found a nice Ford Escape that was perfect but it had way too many miles on it so that was out of the question according to my dad.. Now I found another one around town and it was too expensive. He found a 1996 Ford Explorer, but I don't like the age and the style of them. My bottom line for a car is a 2002. That is when the models change for most SUV's pertaining to Ford's. There is a 2003 Ford Explorer that is red with leather interior and heated seats, sun-roof and it's an Eddie Bauer Edition. That is at a great price and not too many miles. Less than the 1996 by about 10-20 thousand. I did however find another Ford Escape that is a 2007 that has 100,000 miles. Less than all the ones I looked at besides the 2006 Ford Escape that is $13,590. The 2007 is $11,999. I just want to pick a dang car and go. Of course, my father said that I can't get the first one I like, and it has to be up to his standards. I keep thinking to myself. I'll be paying for the payments, insurance and gas. I understand not wanting the high miles etc, but don't over-do it. Monday we go to test-drive the 1996 Black Ford Explorer that is crummy. I hope it runs horribly and has a horrid odor that can't come out of the nasty mobile. I would happily settle for the 2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition or the 2007 Ford Escape. (leaning for the Ford Escape). I may sound like a snob, but this is a present for not talking to me for 3 years straight and living across town from me and an early graduation gift... sigh. I really hate car shopping. :(

Zac - you need me to come car shopping with you! I absolutely LOVE trying out different cars! :D

I love trying out different cars! The only trouble is, is that I want an SUV but not a huge one that will make me feel really small and I don't want one that is all cramped up like a Jeep. O: ha ha Otherwise I love to test-drive cars.

here's a tip - be grateful :) think about what is beneficial and affordable in these days of economy. you may be well off, but be smart about it. Isn't the most important thing about car shopping, is finding something safe and efficient? and secondly, is an suv something you need for everyday life? probably not.

a car is a car, you can still pick up the ladies in a neon lol

My first car was a 99 ford exploder. The car had 120,000 When I got it for 6k. This was in 2006. The car was a great car never had any problems with it. I hated the MPG it got though. Now I drive a 2007 VW GTI with 60k miles and it was only 15k. What is your budget for the car?

Oh and btw go easy on your dad, he has much more experience buying cars than you do lol I just had the "fun" time of car shopping with my lil bro and he was just too excited to make a good decision on a car. It really helps to have someone go with you when it's your first time. And seeing as you have never had a car before your goin to want the first one you can get and you dad will be there to help make logical choices.

Ha, that made me think of a joke with my car. My friend and I were going to get someone else and they were having a crappy day and we said we are going to pick you up... in a lumina. ;D Cheesy joke but it was funny at the time. I am getting the SUV due to the fact of traveling for college and hauling things around. Such as Chameleon cages if need be. Also, something for storage if something needs to be taken someplace etc.

Ha ha ironic. ;) My family owned racecars for many years. That is why I'm having my dad help me vs. my mother. He's a big car person and builds Boom/Lifts for Terex/Telelect. My Grandmother had a 1999 Ford Explorer for about 8-10 years and she loved it. I recall her always copying down every payment she did for gas and listed the mileage at the time. Something I might do. :b

When i went shoping my parent told me i had ( ) to spend. i got a new car. i was looking at trucks and sports cars ect but ended up buying a kia rio. good gas cute car and a 10year warenty. i've had people actually tell me they dont like my car becuz it's not a truck or sport but they also pay alot more to drive there car. it's whatever you want. i wuddnt mind haveing something nicer but im young and dont need to spend my paycheck buying gas, instead i get clothes and chameleons. :)

ps- it was hard to not get that tundra!

My dad gave me no spending limit, but I have to pay for the car payments and gas, and insurance. My mother does the insurance, gas isn't that much and if payments are low enough or they are suitable than I can do it easily. That is why I'm not getting a brand new car. ;)

We buy and sell cars all the time. We almost always buy them and drive them for a few years and then sell them for more then what we paid. We look more at the inside guts of a car rather then what it looks like. Usually we buy them for under $1000 and over 150,000 miles on them. My husband just sold his last Honda for $3000 and it had over 297,000 miles on it. We only paid $400 for it 4 years ago!!

We look more to see a vehicle is mechanically maintained. I had my new car with less then 1,000 miles on it when it got scratched in a parking lot!! You can always fix vehicles cheaper then making a larger loan payment on one that looks good after having a good steam clean on the engine, cleaned interior and carwash. Buy from an individual and not a car lot. A lot of people think that if you get them off a dealership that they will have no problems as they have been mechanically gone through before being put on the lot... not true. They usually just clean them and no major maintenance them unless they are sold certified.

With gas being what it is... you might want to consider getting a cheaper vehicle so you can also buy a motorcycle too! :) I drive a Jeep in winter and a motorcycle in better weather. :)

Ha ha me on a motorcycle! bahaha! That would be quite a site! :b If the gas gets too high I always have I bike. ;) I am getting something dependable for the winter months also, all though last winter I didn't need it. :b

Back from car shopping.. Test drove the nasty mobile. It smelled like dogs and cigarettes, the left front side window doesn't work, and the blinker isn't working. I really want to give up.

SUCCESS! So, I found yet another Ford Escape that is decent, not the best, but I want a dang Ford Escape if you couldn't all ready tell. :b It's a 2001 Ford Escape XLT I believe, not sure on the XLT or XTL? Whatevvs. I'm totes gettin' that car. As of yesterday my power steering went out in my white trash mobile... I put in new power steering fluid and this morning I could hardly turn the wheel. Saturday instead of going to Minnesota to the reptile expo (my first ever expo) I will be getting my new car..

This is the new car that I am going to look at and hopefully purchase on Saturday: http://www.swensonclearlake.com/showpicture.aspx?pid=20805896&vid=2054415

Best of luck with whatever you end up getting. When I was ready for my first vehicle it was a truck because I drove using Farmer tags at 15. My truck of choice, purchased by yours truly was a 1975 Ford Explorer (first year they made pickups). It was baby poop yellow, and had a brown cap on the back. It was 5 years older than I was, had an 8 track player and cost me all of $500.

For my birthday that year my father and uncle painted it the color of my choice - electric aqua! I tamed that with both pink and black racing stripes - the kind that come as stickers and you peel off. Oh, and don't forget the aztec printed seat covers, 3 on the column shifter, and the Winnie the Pooh window clings. Yep, it was original and man I miss that truck... :(

Thanks so much! I started driving when I was 14. ;) The State of South Dakota is so rural that they let everyone drive at that age. I am really hoping for the Escape. If and when I get it I am going to get a paint job on it and paint it dark grey or black. :3
