Canadian winters

Have you considered purchasing a humidifier for the entire room to help boost the base humidity in your house during winter? They are about $40-60 new at a hardware store, (cheaper used) and will also help keep your house more comfortable for you as well.

@ Hoj. Thanks for sharing your experience. I had difficult to maintain humidity in cage above 40% before. I now covered almost 3 sides of my cage with corrugated plastic (bought from Home Depot) and will see how it goes this time.

I feel so bad to my cham since he was my first exotic pet. I only had him for 5 days...
I believe he died because of dehydration (low humidity on cage most of the time even with mister) and also low night temp. I already bought an ceramic heat emitter just in case.

I have set up my misting schedule this time as follow:
8:15 - 10 mins
11:30 - 10 mins
14:00 - 10 mins
17:00 - 10 mins
Will give it a test next week and I will report later.

I will get my next cham in the mid of DEC and would like to make sure both temp & humidity are okay before I take him home this time.

thats too much misting. It's unneccessary. Even with the humidity down, they will be okay. Your best bet is getting a cage that isn't all mesh if you are concerned, but the amount of water youll be putting through with that schedule isn't healthy in my opinion. I also doubt your last chameleon died from dehydration after 5 days, it was probably already on it's death bed from where you received it. I just don't think anything you could have done in 5 days would make that drastic of a change

@tdocham. Thanks for point out that misting would be too much. I will make the adjustment later this week since it's warm in Toronto recently. Humidity in my house is above 50% in average.

I still can't figure out what went wrong to make my first cham die. Just want to make sure everything is alright this time before I get my 2nd cham.

If you have a screen cage, wrap the sides and the back with plastic... it will be a bit better than a completely open mesh screen. I usually do 3 hand mistings a day with warm water and didn't have any issues last winter. It sucks that we get cold winters, but on the plus our summers are nice and humid and im sure the chams love that

Thanks again tdocham.

Would you suggest to turn on a humidifier if humidity in my house is below 40% at night?
