Can I put a cham in this?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/72894798@N08/6950837647/ I have a crested gecko cage ( 16" L X 16" W X 20" H ) and was wondering if I could have a senegal chameleon is I put enough research into it, I've kept 2 crested geckos a red ear slider turtle and a green anole and MANY aquariums that are saltwater.

Chameleons cannot be kept in glass sides with the exceptions of a few species ( however i wouldn't ever put one in glass)

the lower front is screen and the top is screen. Is there any chameleons that would like this terrarium?

if both the lower front and the top are screen, you should be able to house a chameleon in there. remove the substrate, replace it with paper towels or something that does not absorb a ridiculous amount of water, and so that it can be thrown out as a cleaning method. naturalistic substrate is not for chameleons

then get a pygmy they are i believe easiest to care for too.

I disagree. Just because veiled/panther females are slightly smaller than the males of their species does not mean they should be kept in a cage that small.

OP, I personally wouldn't keep any true chameleon in that for their whole life; it's just too vertically cramped. Even for a small species like the senegal, I'm a believer in 18x18x36 being the bare minimum cage size in order to provide a decent quality of life.

It would be fine for a smaller chameleon...I have both my Fischer's (he's sort of a midget) and my Peacock in cages about that size. And, I think it would be okay for a female veiled or panther.

Please do not spread false information. They absolutely CAN be kept in glass. It all has to do with how you maintain it. Plenty of people keep them in glass. Especially in the UK.

You could house a smaller species animal in there. How come you're stuck on nothing over 40 dollars? You'll more than likely end up with a WC (wild caught) animal which can have pricey vet bills.

The cage would work super well for a small chameleon or for a young chameleon, and then upgrade him in cage size later. But like others have said, glass is perfectly acceptable, especially since you have the bit of screen at the bottom and front. The air flow will be good.

I will say this though, chameleons are an expensive pet to keep. Be prepare to spend some money on them, between lights, supplements, etc. etc.

Well at least you were able to realize that BEFORE getting a chameleon Most of the time people buy then pay the REAL price, often with bad outcomes. So props to you.
