Can I feed My Jackson Cham Roaches caught from home?

Tiny

New Member
We are new Jackson Cham owners and LOVE our little guy.
Age - Unknown (about 3-4 inches long NOT including his tale)
Wild Caught (WC)
Male
Name is Buddy

We bought him crickets from the pet store and was told we didn't need to buy calcium for the crickets. I'm starting to think the pet store worker is clueless on Jackson Cham care (sadley they have one in the store even!) The worker even told us to feed our Jackson only 2 or 3 crickets every other day! I recently learned he needs to eat almost triple quadruple that amount! Yikes!
Can someone give me proper advice on what to feed the crickets?

Also, we have roaches crawling around (I know, disgusting, but it's Hawaii, not much I can do.)
I know we can't feed Buddy the roaches crawling around now because we use to spray posion all the time (I refuse to spray poison if Buddy is in the same room, is this still a safe distance?), but can we feed him the roaches if we stop spraying poison?
It would be nice to set up some kind of trap for the nasty roaches and feed them to Buddy. We would of course continue the crickets as well and I guess other bugs (I have to figure out wher I can buy a variety).

Hello,

Welcome to the forum. There are many great resources here that will help you learn more about your new chameleon.

Yes he can eat roaches but I would only feed him ones that have been bred free of any pesticides and are safe.

Here is a great basic caresheet for Jackson's https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/...eets/jacksons/

Be sure to go through the resources here. https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/

Also note that Jackson's require less supplementation than other chameleon species. Do not give D3 more than once or twice a month as you can overdose on D3. Also the multivitamin should be given once or twice a month. Your level of supplementation will depend on how well you gut load your feeders and what variety of feeders you are using.

Thank you. The first and last links do not work :(
I will continue to just kill our roaches then (Not like I was going to catch them, that would have been a bfs job lol).

I'm worried about the Jackson Cham at the pet store we went to. Seems ALL the information they gave us was incorrect. And its just a small mom and pop shop, you think they would be more invested...

I can't wait to buy Buddy proper food. Thank you!!
