Can a cham cage sit on the floor?

I see that everyone says that they want their chams cage as high off the ground as possible.. What is the reason for this?

its instinct for them to be as high as possible. Mine was noticeably happier every time I heightened the free range area.

Chameleons like to be up off the ground it gives them a safe feeling. But no they don't have to be my cage sits on the ground and my chameleon i content with it.
