Camille's eggs......she had 46

Yesterday about 5 pm Camille started digging in her plant. It was a large plant and if she chose that over the laying bin, I just allowed her to continue. She went to sleep in the hole about 1 am this morning......I was up most of the night. At 7 am she was back up digging again. When I checked on her again around 10 am she had the hole covered and she was just sitting in the dirt. She was a weird brown color......a color I've never seen her have before. At first she looked scared of me then I reached down and picked her up and put her in a cage. She didn't move around much but when I put a cricket loose in the cage, she nailed it. Then I gave her a silkworm and she ate that. Then I gave her a warm and very long misting and filled her dripper with warm water and she moved over under the dripper.......hopefully she drank. As soon as her cage dried a bit I gave her some heavily dusted (with calcium) crickets and she ate those and 2 more silkworms.

The eggs are not fertile. I have not allowed her and Luie to mate......but they do see each other all the time. My daughter (lbesok) said this probably caused her to have the clutch even though I keep her temps between 80 and 82 and only feed her 6 to 8 feeders (depending on the size) 3 days a week.

I am so thankful that she's ok. Jann

Congratulations for getting through that. That was quite an ordeal but on a good note, she ate and the number of eggs is reasonable. :) I mean, it could have been 90 or 100 which would be scary.

Congrats, I am a wreck when one of mine lays eggs. Good eggs or not it is hard on them, so that makes it hard on us. Glad you are both pass it with no problems. I have one carrying infertile eggs who doesn't seen to want to lay.:(:(

Good to hear she got them all out and is well on her way to recovery.:)

I'm in the same boat, I hope she lays soon. Shes set up with a bin and privacy. I guess all I can do is wait......I hate the waiting game.:(

I'm glad to hear that all is going well Jannb.
it's nice to hear some good news instead of all the bad storys lately.

We do have to give it to them... that is one tough task. Not to play down child birth, but ladies... could you imagine if you had to dig a 50ft hole then push out 40-100 little decendants, then bury them again. It really is an impressive feat for these girls. If it wasn't natural for them I would feel guilty.

My fem Veiled Sookie layed exactly that amount her last clutch, and she worried me the same way. After laying I found her laying in the bin almost lifeless. My immediate thought was that she was not going to make it, based on her color and extreme lack of energy. I did an immediate hydration session, and let her have some fat silkies, which she did eat and by the next morning she was back to her normal self.:)

Edit: So is there a reason why you haven't let them have their kicks? How about some pics of the Lady?:)

Thanks everyone. I wish I could have dug the hole for her and it was so scary to leave her in the hole over night but I didn't want to do anything to make her stop and possibly get egg bound.

Here's a couple of pictures. Camille's 14 months old and this was her first clutch. Luie's 25 months old. MAYBE later this summer I'll let them mate. They sure like each other. I guess it's not natural to keep them apart (on seperate trees) but I'm just so afraid something might happen to one or both of them.

It is admirable that you have to gorgeous Veileds both in their prime, and the number one priority for you is their health, and not putting them together asap to get babies. Only thing I would say is if you are not going to breed them then then I would try to keep them out of sight of each other... you're teasing them.:D;)

When the day comes you are going to try, don't be so worried about them, just keep an eye to make sure Luie isn't abusive, and they should do natures dance.

Camille is one GORGEOUS female! I always love her Blues... She definately wants him that's for sure!
