Calcium with D3 vs. Calcium without D3

My mom is a pharmacist and she told me that Vitamin D3 just helps absorb the calcium better. Could I just use a smaller amount of it every time I feed the crickets and then a larger bit once a week and then Multivitamin every two weeks for a Veiled Chameleon Baby Male ? (Coming in the mail tomorrow!!!!!)

just save yourself headache and working out a schedule and switch to repashy calcium plus. Then you just feed that to them daily and no need to bother with the d3 or other vitamins etc.

I've heard a tiny bit.. like small fraction of a match head size every other feeding can be used and no more. Every two weeks is recommend (slightly more for a baby) so if ur gonna add a tiny tiny bit every feeding or every other i wouldnt give him any more in bulk. Imo. And if ur gonna do that add a tiny tiny bit of multivit and just use that formula as opposed to d3 2 times a month and multi 2 times a month. I've heard spreading out the d3 and multivit doses into most feedings opposed to lumping it in 2 times a month is better for them.. course ur only roughly re creating a product call repashy calcium plus which has very low levels of d3 and multivit. So it is used most feedings and nothing more.

Supplemented D3 can be overdosed on, and quite easily.

D3 from UVB cannot be overdone, and is your primary source of D3 for the chameleon.

D3 supplements are just that, supplementary.

They are used to make sure the chameleon is getting enough D3 overall.

Supplemented D3 is stored in the chameleons body, until it is used up.

The body will use the supplemented D3, before it creates its own from UVB.

I would use less with a baby.

Repashy Calcium Plus does make things easier, and if your keeping the chameleon indoors, Id recommend it.

wait a minute??? you don't dust your crickets with the repash...you feed it to them??? aren't we supposed to be dusting our feeders with the supplements and not feedint it to them?

sorry I should of been more verbose I guess. It was assumed we were talking about the supplements themselves and application/use was understood since he was already supplementing.

yeah, I hope that is what they mean but just double checking. I have seen people on here before feed the supplements to crickets and not know any better.

I know better but like i said the discussion is around the supplements to use not the supplementation application process.

thats ok, I know what you are saying but like I just stated I have seen people not know they are supposed to dust the feeders and were feeding the supplements to the feeders instead!!!

Thats going to depend on what type of chameleon you are keeping.

Minerall indoor formula has a very low dose of D3 in it. About 1/10 the amount repashy has, so you can use it most feedings if you want. They usggest using it every day for babies, every other day for juvies, and every 3rd day for adults. Simple enough.

dont forget your chameleon is producing its own D3 daily via the UVB exposure, as needed.

and as solidsnake said, supplement use should be supplementary.
A good diet of a wide variety of prey well and properly gutloaded should take care of a lot. Some types of prey dont require any supplementation whatsoever.
