Calci Worms

Ever heard of them?

I hadn't. I just got some at Petco. Supposedly natural high source of calcium and easier to digest than mealworms?

I believe that is superworms?

Phoenix worms are soft as heck, can easily squash them between your fingers on accident. I cant imagine needed to do this at all.

they are phoenix worm.
They are MUCH MUCH BETTER nutrition wise than mealworms.

the problem is that they are very tiny for adult chameleon.
So, Juvenile to adult chameleon tends to ignore them.
If your cham tends to chew well before swallowing, then you don't have anything to worry about.

Sometimes, cham just swallow.. Phoenix worm has quite tough exoskeleton enabling them to come out whole (dead though).
Pricking them will ensure your chameleon's stomach acid to get in and digest them completely.

As far as this feeder goes, I have never felt the need to prick them.
However, although i never seen intact worms come out from my cham's poop (my cham is a big chewer), i am sure some in here have experienced that.

I am quite surprised to find you got it from Petco (I bet they overcharge you).. and then i started to wonder... maybe it's something else.. hmmmm..

Yea they look pretty much like that. They are pretty small but my chameleon is small too. She is almost full grown but only like 6-7". The girl at Petco said that they were soft and safer than mealworms and I checked and Phoenix worms are the highest in calcium so that makes sense to call me CalciWorms. They had a bunch of them on top of the fridge they were $2.89 or 3.89 for 25.

I haven't tried feeding them yet. Should I gutload? I am going to try feeding them from a cup.

I have heard of them coming out undigested, but i have never had that problem with my chams.

They do have a high amount of chitin though. Whenever i feed them to my guy he will poop about 3-5 days later instead of once a day or every other day, but its nothing to be worried about.

My chams do seem to enjoy them and they are usually one of the first feeders to be eaten in his cup (but i guess that is just preference from chameleon to chameleon). Make sure the cup is super dry though. They can climb out using the smallest droplets of water.

thanks i just got some of these and my baby vield loves them, note : andrew is right they can use tiny amounts of water to escape the cup so make sure its dry
