Cage too hot!!!!

could you please explain to me how it gets 109 degrees in south florida, please

oh yea cuz your using hid

so hear you go

go buy a 10 dollar honeywell turbo fan and mount it on your ceiling and aim it right at your bulb, this will cool the heat buildup associated with your hood/bulb at least 8 degrees

be careful not to have the air flow hitting your cham cage too much don't want to dry him out

i know a lot about hid lighting but not when it comes to using it for chameleons, just hydroponics

Even Dank agrees that in the dead of summer keeping them outside is a no-go. Interesting how all the people that say you CAN do it do not live here????? Ok-so I am in a bad mood! :( The humidity is awful and combined with the heat it is a recipe for URI-trust me I am not making this up. The big time keepers here are not doing it outside.

yes green house keeping is the best of both worlds

also in your misting make sure that the water doesn't build up, have some drainage, because all that evaporating water from a huge puddle under a cham cage certainly won't make your respiration nightmares any better. I have never had a problem with uri but i also make careful sure to bring them in when it gets above 90

also that water collecting on dry days + the feeders and chams will attract plenty of water moccasins quickly if you live near woods

Veileds vs. other chameleons...I may try the Oustalets outside for a more extended period, but Veileds are a bit different with the humidity.

is it worth the risk?

feral populations may survive. good for them.

i wouldn't risk my pets - i am too emotionally attached to them all. i don't consider the space needed in my house to be a problem. i have to run the a/c anyway for my furry and feathered pets. like i said before... the house is plenty humid. plus this way i don't have to constantly check the temps, adjust a fan, plug in the humidifier (does any one in fl use them anyway? why?), check for loose alligators, loose neighborhood kids that want to pet my pets, etc:eek:

eek!!! what is URI? never heard of it. and all of this work im gonna have to do to maintain temps in my porch might be a lil much, its already becoming a pain. so im moving her in tonight.

ok, just finished moving her inside, i did it while she was asleep so she wouldnt notice. went to lowes and got a storage rack the got her up to 5-6 feet high. just hope she dont wake up and freak out cuz she has been moved.

you dont think im overfeeding do you? the first pic she looks pretty plump, but she always looks plump at night so i dont know. only had her for 3 weeks now. she has tripled in size since, growin like a weed. thankx

Pics are a bit blurry, but she looks fine. Veileds grow like nothing I have ever seen! Have you tried her on silkworms yet? An excellent and easy feeder-mine think they are candy!

no silkworms yet, gotta order em online, no local source. thanks for the tip though.

peeps say you can feed females all they want till about 6 months right? then put em on a diet to prevent eggbound and oversized clutches. am i correct here?

Moved Cage Inside Last Night

Yay!!!, i went home on lunch and checked the temps and what not. 95 basking and 76 ambient, with 60% humidity. im sure she will like this setup better.
