Honestly, I think if you have some nice, non-pokey/hard plants (no ficus trees) covering most of the cage you'll be fine. Sure, babies fall, but if you have a healthy baby and enough soft plants the risk of falling and being hurt are way less. You could also cover the bottom with a soft substrate (moss or something) and cover it with fiberglass screen (so they can't eat it) if you're worried about falling. It lessens the impact.
Honestly, there are many people who keep babies in 2x2x4 just fine. I dont, but thats my choice. If I ever did, I'd keep many feeding cups in the cage and make it as safe as possible.
