No pine, eucalyptus, or cedar. But most other trees are fine you just do not want sap producing trees. Fresh fallen branches or cutting some is great. Call a local tree trimmer. Easy way to get fresh cut and they normally know what type of trees they are.

Softwoods/conifers/evergreens/needles = NO

Ask family too. My grandma is my stick dealer and supplies me when asked. All I gotta do is go up to her place and get them myself.
