Looking to buy a humidifier for the room my veiled cham is in to raise the humidity. No idea what to get tho. Cool mist or warm mist? What's better? Also, any recommendations on brands or specific units?

Thanks a bunch!

Look for the cool mist supersonic one. That's the one most people get. It's like 30 bucks I think

Supersonic vs ultrasonic? What's the difference if I may ask? Carl you always seem to have the answers.

Supersonic is a speed; ultrasonic is a humidifier type :D

Probably a typo. I'm sure he meant ultrasonic. I have one for my Jax. It's a must in the winter for me.

Lathis beat me to it. I've never heard of a supersonic humidifier.

Lol! I've been doing this a long time. :)

Tks. Between typos, my A.D.D, and easily being confused, you all are awesome. Thank you for the clarification. I was scratching my head there for a second.

Thanks all. Is it a must to use distilled water in these things? Or is tap water ok? I know tap water has ruined foggers in the past, so I'm assuming the same goes for this?

I use tap. The ultrasonics don't get mineral accretion on the heating element like the hot mist humidifiers. If you have hard water, they will spray out a white mist that is the minerals from the water instead. They still need to be cleaned regularly for mold and bacteria.

Ok, thanks.

You mention heating element. Do the cool mist humidifiers have this also?

And I'm not supposed to have hard water, but it sure seems like it at time. Will water treatment drops (stuff used for aquariums) help? Or how about I alternate tap and distilled water...maybe that would help preserve the life of the humidifier? Hmm.

Not sure about the cool mist ones if they don't specifically say ultrasonic. I would assume they do have a heating element.

I can't answer your question on the aquarium drops, since I don't know anything about those. You are supposed to clean them regularly to prevent mineral scale. I used to use vinegar weekly back when I had a warm mist one. Distilled water would prevent that issue, but I go through several gallons a day, so that's no too practical for me.

Honestly, we have an airoswiss ultrasonic humidifier in the bedroom that is very, very expensive but worth every penny. I usually end up buying a small cheap one for downstairs every other year or so from Target.

How do you go about cleaning them? I suppose I could just google it.

Thanks for the replies.

What might be considered "proper" humidity for human situations is NOT necessarily appropriate for a chameleon. They are native to areas that tend to be much more humid than a human home, so it is a keeper's responsibility to create that environment in their habitat at least.

I think this poster is spamming as I've seen the same response to other humidifier threads.

That is correct for the Miss Bangladesh trying to work door to door to sell her Tea pot....
I'm a little teapot
Short and stout
Here is my handle
Here is my spout
When I get all steamed up
Hear me shout
Just tip me over and pour me out!

I'm a special teapot
Yes, it's true
Here's an example of what I can do
I can turn my handle into a spout
Just tip me over and pour me out!
You cant fool us.
