My vet told me i should be using a reptile basking bulb not a regular household bulb, any truth to that statement, thanks

If you are referring to trying to provide a basking spot, then a regular household bulb is fine. In fact, that is what a reptile basking bulb is, with a much fancier name and price tag.

If you are trying to provide a UVB source, then you need to find a specific bulb that does that.

You may also want to consider a new vet......
 
Exactly. Unless you are looking for a specific wavelength of light then it doesn't matter, heat is heat. Sounds like he's just repeating the same misinformation pet stores hand out...Unless you were talking about UVB, in which case he is totally on point
 
I have a 5.0 the vet said going to a 10.0 would be better

Only if your cage is very tall so the light has to penetrate farther to reach the chams. What species do you have? A 10.0 will be too intense for a montane species like a jackson's.
