building a cage

hello i am building a cage for my chameleon and i was going to get a book shelf that is wooden and replace the two glass doors with with screen and take out the shelf but the top is wood so how do you think i should put the lights in without it being able to burn my cham and not catch the wood on fire.

I'd recommend cutting a piece out of the top and covering the hole with screen. I have an Armware (?) that I'm converting and will have to do the same thing?

Correct cut out the top as much as possible. My husband then cut out a ledge and did one of those screen kits and made a window screen to fit in the opening. The lights will then be on top of the cage.
