Bruise or Burn, not shedding correctly???

Bruna is a 8 month old panther female. I am not sure if she burned herself or fell and got a bruise from falling off her vine about a month ago. The past couple of days, she has been shedding, but in the area of the bruise or burn- the skin is not coming off and even seems to maybe be bleeding a little when she has tried to pull it off with her feet? Should I take her to the vet or will it just heal in time?

This isn't a bruise. Bruises form because blood has seeped out of damaged capillaries under the skin and clear up on their own in a few days at most. They don't affect the skin surface, the texture or shedding. This is either a burn or some sort of skin infection. Can't really tell from the pic. If she's had this a month and it's now bleeding at the edges there may be an active infection or necrosis going on. I would have a vet look at her to see how much damage there is, remove any dead tissue, and send you home with a protective antibiotic cream such as Silvadene.

And, check your cage humidity levels and the temp under your basking light so she doesn't get burned again (if that's what it turns out to be).

Thanks for the reply.
It looked like a bruise for about a month- it wasn't raised until she recently shed a couple of days ago. Now it is raised, and will not shed in that area.
How would she have gotten a skin infection????
Her humidity is usually around 50-60% and she has several basking areas, but the temp does not go over 90, usually around 85.
Otherwise- she is fine, eating, drinking and being active- seems like she is in a great mood.

sometimes they just get infections.
however, you have her basking temps set too high.
by reducing the temp to no more thn 83, you can reduce egg laying.

However, if there is blood and issues with the skin texture.. you need to see a vet for medication to treat it.

Burn is healing!

It was a burn, and have fixed all of her basking locations... vet assures me that she is going to be fine!!! Thank goodness!

Thanks for the follow up! It is important for people searching through these threads for answers to their problems to see updates on the resolution.

Can you advise how you have treated the burn (silvadane, polysporin, antibiotic?)

Thanks!!
