Brev Egg Question...

My brev. laid eggs yesterday sometime, but I did not dig them up until this morning. She laid them in a very dry part of the tank, so when I dug them up they were moderatley shriveled. Would they shrivel overnight, or could they have been less than OK when she laid?

Here is a pic...I put them in the vermiculite and dropped water around them hoping they will rehydrate...

From what I understand, you have addressed this properly.
I imagine they will plump up in a day or so.

The eggs seem to be rounding out some. Can anyone answer the question about them becoming shriveled due to them being in the dry substrate overnight after she laid them???

No I can't.

My first thought when I saw this thread earlier today was; perhaps those eggs aren't the same ones the female laid yesterday.

Back when I was working with the pygmies, I would go in to excavate the freshly laid eggs and discover 3 other clutches I never knew existed! They never stopped breeding for me, it drove me crazy. I had to get rid of them all.

Maybe do some digging in your tank tonight and see what you find.

That was my first thought to, but that was where she dug the hole and sat all day. I dug all around and didn't find any others.

They seems to be rounding out nicely in incubation. I guess we wait and see. Thanks for letting me know that it can happen overnight. The substrate was absolutley dry.

I'm surprised your female laid eggs in such a dry area! Mine were always so fussy about finding a semi-moist spot.

I had one that died eggbound from being picky about spots I think. That is when I started making sure there were spots that were good and moist. I am not sure why she picked that spot either except for it being the same spot as last time. She does not seem to be a very picky little cham.

That's one nice thing about the pygmies eh! Once the females have found their "spot" they tend to use it over and over and thus makes searching for eggs that much easier!

I think it was just that since it was dry they started to dry out. Congratz on the new eggs. They should be fine.

Maybe not enough humidity bc of dry substrate? Knowing Pygmy enclosures they are really humid... I dont own any so that is just a guess. Anyways good luck with the eggs, they will be fine.
