Hey fellow chammy people, so just wondering if some1 could help me out with how to breed veileds, either point me in the right direction or some opinions, I'm looking for like what time of the year to present females to male and all the info, I know jannb will probably already have a post of this but I just can't find it, thanks heaps every1

Hi Nathan, How long have you been keeping chameleons and how old are your veileds? Keeping chameleons is a big responsibility and breeding even BIGGER. It takes allot of time and commitment and allot of money. Those little ones can eat you out of a house and home. :) My 27 veiled babies were eating 4000 crickets a week plus all the flies and baby roaches. I'm attaching an older thread for you that you should find interesting.https://www.chameleonforums.com/some-thoughts-breeding-2612/

There is no time of year that they breed....its more like 3 or 4 times a year. What I do is show the female (not before she's a year old/full grown) to the male by holding her outside his cage. This way you can see their reactions without them being able to attack each other.

If the female hisses, rocks back and forth, gapes, inflates her body, darkens her background colors, etc. then she is non-receptive/gravid and she should be put back into her own cage.

If she remains calm, keeps her lighter colors with the yellow splotches an blue dots, does not gape or hiss or rock back and forth....she is receptive and as long as the male reacts properly, they can be put together.

If the male acts aggressively...gapes, inflates his body, holds one hand up near his chin, etc. then he is not seeing the female as a receptive female....and you will have to wait until he behaves in a mating mode.

As Jann has said, there is a lot to consider before breeding!

Thanks for the replies, jannb I haven't been keeping them long and they are only 2 months old so I know to wait at least a year before introducing them, a few years back I had a large collection of green tree pythons and was breeding them, so I've got some idea about the responsibilities and time consuming it can take to raise babies of high demand, also money isn't a problem, I know it's a long way off before I breed just wanna know as much as I can before the time arrives.
Kin thanks for the help that is such a good idea about how to present the female, so smart and so easy thanks again

Ok so I read that link jann, and totally understand it, I'm not doing it to make a quick buck, I'm doing it to further my chameleon stock, I'll b keeping most of the babies, Is there any other links that can give me the hole run down on the breeding process? Thanks all

I'm on my phone so it's not working to well, does that have a guide to breeding veileds? Thanks
