Breeding Roaches??

Hey guys/gals. Dang, can I just say roaches are EXPENSIVE?? I'm paying 50 cents a roach no matter where I go... I've tried Mulberry, our guys we got our buddy from... I mean come on, they're vermin!!

Anyway, I have been looking into breeding to save cost a little bit and to feed my cham and gecko. Anyone who's experienced with breeding could give me some advice?? Or tell me a good site or get me some decently priced roaches?? Thanks!

You'll have 100's upon 100's in a couple of months. It does take them awhile to grow, so you'll need to be patient on feeding them, unless you get a great starter colony...
 
Breeding is super easy! They are what they are, so they will breed pretty easily with little care. You'll need to invest in some adults, just to save you some time. I'd keep these in something like a plastic storage container or a tank with a secure lid (just for piece of mind!) and egg crate. You'll want to keep the container a little warm so they breed better. I keep my roach colonies outside now that it's warm out (in the shade), and as long as I'm giving them a source of moisture, they seem to be breeding well in the 85-90*F days here.

I gut load them the same way as my crickets, with a dry gutload like Superload and fresh fruits and veggies.

Dubias will give live birth so one day you'll just find babies running around, possibly a few weeks or so after you get the adults. It will take a while for the colony to really get going, but it will happen. The more adults you start with the faster you will get more babies.

If you do a google search I'm sure you'll find more thorough instructions but it really is very easy. I bought a 50 "pack" of cave roaches a few months ago and by now I have hundreds.
 
Start with about 10-20 females (adults) and 5-10 males (adults) and I promise you, within 2-3 months you'll crap your pants at the quantity of roaches scurrying around!
 
Thanks! Yep, I've heard that one before maxttu... :) I've been feeding my guy roaches ever since I've had him, but our supplier only gives us males... anyone know where I could get some breeding pairs?? :D
 
I'd search your local craigslist or something for reptile feeders, here unfortunately they arent legal wich made them abit of a search to find

Search? For roaches? I know a great way! Look in your pantry!

Nah, just kidding. I don't know about BC but here in Colorado the climate is WAY too finnicky and there aren't many roaches that survive here. I've never seen any, but I think there is a small population of them in the warmer, more stable areas of CO. Actually most of the reasons feeders are illegal is cause they are uncontrollable if they get loose. For instance it is illegal to buy locusts in the United States because of their horrible history.
