Hi, I am new to these forums, and I have a male Nosey be, and I am going to get a female soon to try and breed. I have heard only 50% of all gravid females survive. Anyone know if that is true? If it is, is there anyway to increase the percentage?:)

Welcome to the forums! :)

No that is not true, but you should definitely do some reading because when problems come up with gravid females it can be fatal. Good preparation decreases the risks.

I second Sandra. Raising 25+ babies to an age safe to ship will require all of your time and run you up a very large bill. You must first be well researched and prepared.

I'm not trying to discourage you. Just trying to promote responsible breeding.

I have been keeping for about two years, and I have done some research. It will be a while until I get a female. I heard about the 50% thing from a book I read. I am also starting to raise my own insects.

No, the 50% thing is completely untrue. I think if it were, breeders would find that this is suddenly a much more expensive hobby if they have to replace half their females every season! Granted, bad things are inevitable, but they will not happen to half of all breeding females. If you provide a suitable place to lay and provide well-rounded nutrition most problems can be completely avoided.

That is a good start. Having an unlimited supply of fruit flies and pinheads will really keep your expenses down :)
