breeding group

ok so this maybe thinking way to far in advance but it seems the hardest part of keeping these guys is getting them. would anybody be interested in setting up some kinda breeding group to keep bloodlines fresh and maybe cut down on some of the WC imports???????

I'm sure people would love to trade back and forth to keep blood unrelated. You might want contact Julirs about it- I know she is working with pygs.

As far as WC VS CB, CB pygs do pop up occasionally, but I think at this point it will be difficult for you to rule out WC animals entirely. They are a little more difficult, but I know that FLchams does really well acclimating them before sending them out. There just aren't a ton of CB pygs around, and what there is may be related.

the problem i see with trading them back and forth is shipping costs...

I guess if you are doing multiple animals in one shot then it wouldent be so bad.

yeah i guess thats what i was thinking maybe something like 2 males for 2 females????? i dunno its just an idea right now

I think that's a good idea. Making even trades and just footing your own shipping costs, which should be the same for each party. These guys only last a few year but a breeding group would cut down on imports and trading would cut down on inbreeding. What species do you keep and how far in advance is your idea, since it is just an idea right now?

putting two males in one tank isn't a good idea - one of them will die for sure
Try pairs or 1.X groups. The X depends on how big your enclosure is.
