I see all these intricate branch systems and highways that some people have in their encolsures. Where do you people get this awesome stuff? Are branches from outside safe? Or is artifical stuff better as it won't rot or grow things?

You can use branches from outside. Some bake them on about 250 for a couple hours, and some say it's not necessary as long as you use live stuff, and inspect it real well. Hope this helped.

I use real branches from my yard all the time. I scrub off rotting or flaky bark with a hot water bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water), rinse until I can't smell bleach, and dry thoroughly. Just about anything you use for perches will eventually accumulate enough organic coatings to support moss or mold growth unless you clean it periodically. You do NOT want to use anything treated with a mold or mildew inhibitor...that stuff's toxic.
