Not sure what the point of of this article is . Anyway I suppose whether a piece of tree was submerged under water or soil the out come could be similar. So back to the original thread is this safe in an enclosure as there's tanins in leaves but maybe more coming out of this piece of wood
 
I was not comparing it to something else, I was merely stating that is where I got the info that it was under water. I dont care one way or the other...soil/water.....
From what I can gather it is safe to use.
 
I’m just not sure if it will rot from too high humidity? Should we put some layer of water protecting lacquer?
I don't really know the answer to this. I would assume that it would be fine if you let it dry out during the day, but I could be wrong. Perhaps someone else knows better.

I did see though that people use this wood in aquariums too.
