blue bar or red bar?

at 17 weeks old my new cham was showing alot of color. his bars were becoming a nice blue. maybe i stressed him taking him outside but for some reason he turned dark. now at 20 weeks his bars have turned completely red. did i get a red bar ambilobe instead of a blue bar that i ordered? one pic is of him at 17 wks. other pic is of him now. whats going on? I keep him in a reptibreeze screen enclosure. He eats 10-15 crickets daily. I feed him 7-8 cricks in the morn n 5-7 cricks around 5pm. I dust his morning crickets with reptical with vitamin D on mon. Wed. N fri. N i dust his morn cricks on sunday with multivitamins. I take him outside once a week. Auto mister 6 times a day n hand mist twice a day. Reptisun 5.0 n 60 watt heat lamp. Temp in basking area 85 degrees. Nite time temp around 72 degrees.

I'd be more concerned about his front leg. Looks like he has MBD to me.

Are you already aware of this?

I have to agree with Bernie that the front leg does not look normal. You need to have him evaluated by an experienced chameleon vet to see what going on.

To address your original question, BB ambis will show different colors at diff times and they will also show a mix of red/blue in their bars. The colors will change as the cham ages as well so you have to wait and see what comes out.

bobbystug - As reptoman says a vet visit would be best. However it may also be an idea to fill out the below so we can see what/where your setup is going wrong. Also attach some pics of it if possible.

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.


Cage Info:

Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
Location - Where are you geographically located?

I agree that front leg looks bad! Get hi to a vet quick! Other than that he's beautiful regardless of what he turns out to be

So did he have MBD when you got him?

Typically the supplement schedule should be plain calcium every feeding, calcium with d3 twice a month and a multivitamin twice a month.

Your care sheet was more that likley for an adult. when there growing they require dusting with calicum every day. Rember each care sheet is one persons point of view, and just a genral guied line

he was just a baby when i got him. i only noticed the mbd when it was pointed out to me. have had him 2 months now. hope he will be ok. he eats n drinks like a champ. i gut load his crickets got an auto mister n hand mister. i dusted his crickets 3x week with calcium mith D n dusted once a week with multivitamin. thought i was doing everything right. preordered n waited 7 weeks to get him cuz his sire was a magnificant blue bar n now his bars are solid red n he has mbd. SUCKS!

The problem with MBD is that you cannot reverse it. But you can control it.

I strongly suggest you see a good vet and get the little chap checked out. This is the best way forward for him.

Unfortunately a lot of people get Chams and dont get the right advice or info. You won't go wrong here though. It's a great forum with great people and info

He needs a vet visit and liquid calcium. Where do you live in FL? Dr. Ivan Alfonso is in FL and he's an excellent chameleon vet. Below is my blog for general care. I keep veileds panthers and have a parsonii and this is the info that I provided to the keepers that got one of my babies.
